Switch 2 preorder start times by retailer
The U.S. preorder date was April 24, 2025. Retailer-specific times were reported by the Associated Press and Axios; the reports do not establish that every retailer opened at precisely the same minute.

Why the announced date changed
Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 announcement initially said participating North American retailers would begin preorders on April 9. The U.S. preorder date was later moved to April 24, as reported at the time by Axios. The April 9 date was the original announcement, not the date U.S. shoppers ultimately used to preorder. What sold out—and what launch availability meant
Target said its Target.com preorder allotment sold out in less than two hours. Walmart told the Associated Press that its listings sold out quickly because of high demand. These are retailer-specific reports, not a measure of total Switch 2 preorder volume across the market. Target Associated Press

Nintendo announced that Switch 2 would launch June 5, 2025, in both a standalone console version and a bundle with Mario Kart World. Retailer launch-day plans were separate from the earlier preorder windows: Target said it planned in-store availability on June 5 and online availability June 6, subject to supply. Best Buy said nearly all U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5 for preorder pickup and limited walk-in purchases.
