Little Creatures’ Fremantle site was slated for a reported $10 million transformation at 42 Mews Road, beside its existing Great Hall and Brewhouse. PerthNow reported the plan on 8 May 2025: a two-level venue with harbour views, capacity for more than 1,000 patrons, family facilities and expanded brewery experiences. The report forecast a November 2025 launch, but it does not confirm whether that schedule was met or establish the venue’s status in 2026.
What was planned for the Fremantle site?
The proposed redevelopment centred on the former Harbourside nightclub site at 42 Mews Road, next to Little Creatures’ existing Great Hall and Brewhouse. PerthNow described a two-level hospitality venue designed to accommodate more than 1,000 patrons and make use of the harbour-side setting. The investment and capacity are figures reported in May 2025, not independently verified project outcomes. PerthNow’s 8 May 2025 report is the source for the plans below.
The Den and family facilities
The Den was described as a family-friendly area with an outdoor play space. These were announced features, not confirmation that the facilities are open or available now.
Tasting room and brewery experiences
The Brewhouse was slated to become a tasting room with brewery tours, merchandise and a beer school. The report did not give tour schedules, booking instructions, prices or current availability.

Kitchen and service
Lion said the kitchen would be renovated, with a refreshed menu and streamlined service. The report does not establish the menu or service arrangements now in place.
When was it meant to open, and is it operating now?
PerthNow reported that the Great Hall was expected to stay open through the end of October 2025, ahead of a planned November launch. That was a forecast published in May 2025. The source does not confirm whether the project opened on schedule, provide current hours, or verify access to the planned experiences. Check Little Creatures’ current official venue information before travelling or making a booking.

Who owns and is building the site?
According to PerthNow, the Department of Transport owns the land at 40 and 42 Mews Road and leases it to Lion. The report named Indigenous-owned Dundee Rock as the builder overseeing design and construction. This describes the arrangement reported in May 2025; the article does not independently document any subsequent changes.
How did the redevelopment plan change?
The $10 million proposal followed an earlier redevelopment idea for a different nearby site. PerthNow recounted that Lion announced a purpose-built $30 million venue for the former Joe’s Fish Shack site in September 2021, then scrapped that plan in December 2022 after purchasing the ground lease for its existing hospitality venue and adjacent production facility. The $30 million is the earlier proposal’s reported value, not the cost of the later project.

The report also placed the Fremantle project in the company’s wider history: Lion reportedly bought Little Creatures’ parent, Little World Beverages, for $380 million in 2012 and opened a larger production brewery in Geelong the following year. The purchase price is PerthNow’s retrospective figure, rather than an independently verified transaction detail here.
Why is it called Little Creatures?
PerthNow said the founders took the name from Talking Heads’ 1985 album Little Creatures, while also alluding to live yeast cells, which convert sugars into alcohol. The brewery launched its first beer, a pale ale modelled on hop-driven American pale ales, in 2000.

What the announcement does—and does not—tell visitors
The May 2025 announcement outlines a larger visitor venue, but it is not a current guide to visiting. It identifies the intended location and planned amenities; it does not establish present-day opening status, hours, tour access, bookings, prices or menu details. Treat the redevelopment features as plans until confirmed through current venue information.
