At one million qualifying lifetime flight miles, Delta awards annual Gold Medallion status. Million Milers also receive higher priority for Complimentary Upgrades, may choose personalized bag tags, and are invited to select a milestone gift. The status is not permanent: it applies for the Medallion Year, February 1 through January 31. Delta’s current Million Miler terms set higher thresholds for Platinum, Diamond, and an annual Delta 360° invitation.
What status does Delta award at each Million Miler threshold?
Delta bases the tier on a member’s lifetime Million Miler balance. Its current program page lists these annual status awards and invitation:
| Lifetime Million Miler balance | Delta-listed status or invitation |
|---|---|
| 1 million miles | Gold Medallion |
| 2 million miles | Platinum Medallion |
| 3 million miles | Diamond Medallion |
| 4 million miles | Diamond Medallion |
| 5 million miles or more | Annual invitation to Delta 360° |
The five-million-mile level is an annual invitation to Delta 360°, not a promise of permanent membership. Delta says members receive only the status and benefits associated with their Million Miler tier. For example, Million Miler Diamond status does not include Choice Benefits associated with Platinum status. The status cannot be gifted or transferred.
What other benefits come with Million Miler status?
Higher priority for Complimentary Upgrades
Delta lists a higher priority position for Complimentary Upgrades as a Million Miler benefit. This affects a member’s place in the upgrade process; it does not guarantee an upgrade on any particular flight.

Million Miler status is based on qualifying lifetime flight miles, not every mile earned in the SkyMiles program. Delta says award travel and qualifying flights on partner airlines count, while Basic Economy and similar Economy Light fares do not. For partner travel, Delta’s rules require qualifying flights marketed by Delta partners, and fare exclusions still apply.
