Turki Alalshikh posted on X in October 2025 that a sale of Manchester United to a new investor was at an advanced stage. United sources rejected that claim, and Alalshikh then said he was neither the investor nor from the investor’s country. On Bristol City, he publicly denied he would buy the club, but the club’s chief executive later confirmed that the two had held investment conversations, while saying nothing was imminent. The Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall claims come from a former Crystal Palace chairman’s account of private conversations, not from any announcement by Alalshikh. Every report below dates from 2025, and none of the reviewed sources confirms whether any of these links is still active.
Three kinds of claim, and why they differ
Most of the confusion around these stories comes from treating very different kinds of statement as equal. A social-media post is a claim by the person who wrote it. A report that someone privately discussed a club is second-hand, and it is only as reliable as the person relaying it. A statement from a club executive is the strongest of the three, but it covers only what that executive chose to confirm, on the date he spoke. The table below sorts each claim by its source type.

Manchester United: a post, a rejection, and a clarification
On Wednesday 8 October 2025, Alalshikh wrote on X: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor. I hope he’s better than the previous owners.” BBC Sport reported that multiple sources close to the club rejected the claim as untrue.
In a second post on Thursday 9 October 2025, Alalshikh said he was not the “new investor”, adding “nor are they from my nation”. That clarification means the only public statements on the matter are his own, and they do not support the claim that a sale was under way. Reporting the post, the rejection and the clarification is accurate; presenting an advanced sale as established fact is not.

Some coverage points to older Saudi links with the club. A source close to United pointed to a 2017 memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority, and to a Saudi Telecom sponsorship signed in 2008 and extended in 2013. Those agreements are real history, but they do not show that a sale or bid existed in October 2025.
Bristol City: a denial, then a confirmed conversation
The Bristol City story moved in three steps during 2025.

18 September 2025. Gavin Marshall, chief executive of Bristol Sport Group and a Bristol City director, told BBC Radio Bristol that reports of a Saudi takeover were “purely speculation”. He said the club had attracted speculation about interested parties because owner Steve Lansdown had openly discussed seeking investment.

24 September 2025. Alalshikh wrote on X: “It is not true that I will buy Bristol City FC”, as quoted by The72. This is a denial of a purchase, not a denial that any contact had taken place.

16 October 2025. Tom Rawcliffe, Bristol City’s chief executive, told a fans’ forum, as reported by BBC Sport: “Yes, we had conversations with him [Alalshikh] and we are up for investment but it has to be the right investment.” He added: “At the moment there’s nothing imminent, but we are well backed.”
Rawcliffe’s remarks are the only confirmation of contact from either side, and they are limited. He confirmed conversations about investment, not a bid, and he said no deal was close. Alalshikh’s denial concerned buying the club outright. Read together, the statements describe exploratory contact that the club did not describe as near a transaction, and they do not show a concluded deal.

Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall: Simon Jordan’s account
The Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall claims come from one source. In a talkSPORT interview, reported by SPORTbible on 27 May 2025, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan said Alalshikh was interested in Millwall and liked Southampton. Jordan also said: “I suggested Sheffield Wednesday to him. He doesn’t want Sheffield Wednesday.” According to the same report, Alalshikh had also sparked Millwall speculation earlier that month by sharing and commenting on the club’s social-media post.
Jordan’s account is a report of private conversation. It is not a bid, and Alalshikh has not made a public statement on either club in these reports. Jordan’s account also rules Sheffield Wednesday out rather than in, so it should not be cited as evidence that the club was a target.

What the reporting does not establish
- Whether any of these links is active today. The reviewed reports are from May to October 2025, and no current statement from Alalshikh, Manchester United, Bristol City, Millwall or Sheffield Wednesday was identified.
- Whether Alalshikh has made or been offered a formal bid for any of the clubs. The only confirmed contact is the Bristol City conversation described by its chief executive.
- Any figures for Alalshikh’s wealth, social-media following or the clubs’ valuations. The reporting covered here includes none that can be verified.
To check the current position, look for a statement from the club itself or from Alalshikh posted on his own X account, dated after the 2025 reports above. A claim repeated by other outlets without a new primary statement is still a second-hand report.
If you are following these stories for news rather than for the facts, the distinctions above matter most. A post, a club confirmation and a relayed account can all look like “news” in a headline, but each supports a different level of confidence.
