What to Expect From the Apple Card in 2026: The Chase Transition, APR, and Savings

Apple Card's issuer is planned to move from Goldman Sachs to Chase over roughly 24 months from January 7, 2026. Here is what stays the same, what APR figures apply, and what remains unannounced.

The biggest Apple Card change in 2026 is the planned move of the card’s issuer from Goldman Sachs to Chase. Apple and Chase announced the change on January 7, 2026, and said the transition is expected to take approximately 24 months. Apple says cardholders can keep using their cards as normal while it proceeds. What the announcement does not do is give a completion date or settle the terms Chase will offer afterward.

What is changing, and what is not yet known

Apple has said Chase will become the card’s issuer, and Goldman Sachs will keep servicing Apple Card accounts until the transition is complete. The roughly 24-month window is counted from the January 7, 2026 announcement. Measured that way, the handover would land around early 2028, but Apple has not published a date, so treat that as arithmetic rather than a schedule.

Apple has also said more details will be shared with users as the transition date approaches. Until that happens, the following points remain open:

  • The exact date accounts move from Goldman Sachs to Chase.
  • Whether rewards, APR ranges, and fees will stay the same after the move.
  • Any steps you may need to take, such as re-verifying your account or accepting new terms.
  • The future arrangement for Apple Card Savings.

In its announcement, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, Jennifer Bailey, said Chase “shares our commitment to innovation” and that “additional details will be shared with users as the transition date approaches.” That is promotional language from the companies involved, not independent evidence of how the transition will affect customers.

What stays the same during the transition

Apple’s January 2026 materials say cards keep working normally during the transition, and Mastercard remains the payment network. Apple also continues to describe up to 3 percent unlimited Daily Cash and Apple Card Family as part of the card experience. Two cautions apply to those features:

  • Daily Cash is described as a feature of the card. It is not a new 2026 bonus, and the announcement does not establish what any individual purchase will actually return.
  • These are current or transition-period features. Apple has not said that they will be guaranteed under Chase.

APR: check the date and your own offer

Apple lists variable APRs that depend on creditworthiness. The published range differs by date, so always note which date a number refers to. The figures below come from Apple pages reviewed for this article.

Figure Source Date and conditions
Variable APR from 17.49% to 27.74% Apple’s January 7, 2026 transition announcement Rates as of January 1, 2026; depends on creditworthiness
Same 17.49% to 27.74% range for new accounts Apple’s Apple Card application page As of July 1, 2026; the range is not a promise of the rate any applicant receives

The range is wide, and where an applicant lands in it depends on their credit profile. Your own offer, shown before you apply and on your account statements, is the number that matters. If you carry a balance, the APR is the most important figure on the card, because interest accrues on any unpaid amount. If you pay the full statement balance each month, the APR matters far less.

Apple Card Savings: tied to Goldman Sachs for now

Apple Support explains that when you set up Apple Card Savings, future Daily Cash is sent automatically to that account. Apple identifies Goldman Sachs Bank USA as the current provider. The official transition material reviewed does not say whether Savings will move to Chase, be replaced by a different account, or stay with Goldman Sachs. If Savings matters to your plans, do not assume it will carry over unchanged.

Should you apply or change anything now?

The announcement does not establish the Chase-era terms, so no one can compare the card’s post-transition value with confidence. A practical approach depends on your situation:

  1. If you already have Apple Card, keep using it normally and paying on time. Apple says use is unaffected during the transition, and the announcement does not require any action from you right now.
  2. If you are considering a new application, check the APR you are offered against the range above, and note the date on which that range was published. Compare the current reward rate against other cards you could use, and do not decide on rewards alone.
  3. If you rely on Savings, record your current balance and Daily Cash history so you have a baseline if the account changes.
  4. Watch for Apple’s transition notice. Apple has said details will come closer to the handover, and those notices, not the January announcement, will be the source of truth for dates and terms.
