If you can’t repay GHO or withdraw collateral in Aave, first check that you’re repaying in GHO, have enough to cover accrued interest, and have approved the Pool contract to use your tokens. If a withdrawal is blocked, inspect your health factor and the pool’s available liquidity: collateral backing an active loan may be restricted, and a safe position can still be limited by liquidity.
How do I repay my borrow position?
Repay the debt through the Aave borrow position using GHO, the same asset you borrowed. Aave permits partial or full repayment through its interface or protocol contracts, and the amount due includes accrued interest. Check the current debt shown for your position rather than relying on the amount originally borrowed. Aave FAQ
- Open the Aave interface for the same market and network as your position, then find the GHO borrow position.
- Choose repay and enter a partial or full amount. Make sure your wallet has enough GHO for the amount due, including accrued interest, as well as the network fee.
- If prompted, approve the Pool contract to spend GHO. This may require a separate wallet transaction before the repayment transaction. Aave’s GHO documentation also describes signed-permit repayment through
repayWithPermit, where supported by the route you are using. GHO token documentation - Confirm the repayment and wait for the transaction to complete. Recheck the position afterward; a partial repayment reduces debt but does not necessarily unlock all collateral.
Why can’t I withdraw?
Two separate constraints can prevent a withdrawal: the position’s risk after removing collateral and the reserve’s available liquidity. Check both before changing the amount.
Your collateral is backing an active borrow
When supplied assets secure an outstanding borrow, Aave may prevent withdrawing them if the withdrawal would leave the position unsafe. Repay some or all of the debt, or supply more collateral, then try again. A full repayment releases the collateral from that borrow’s constraint, though available reserve liquidity can still limit how much you can withdraw. Aave withdrawal guide
Your health factor is too low for the withdrawal
Review the health factor displayed for the position. A value below 1 indicates liquidation risk. Withdrawing collateral can reduce the health factor; repaying debt or supplying additional collateral can improve it. Do not withdraw an amount that would leave the position at risk. Aave liquidation guide
The reserve does not have enough available liquidity
Aave withdrawals are limited by the amount of the asset not currently borrowed in that pool. If the position is otherwise safe but the withdrawal still fails or offers a smaller amount, the reserve may not have enough available liquidity. Check the available amount for the specific asset and market, then retry when sufficient liquidity is available. Aave withdrawal guide

How do I repay if I don’t have GHO in my wallet?
Aave’s FAQ describes a repay-with-collateral feature that can use aTokens, flashloans, and DEX integrations. Treat this as an optional interface route, not a feature guaranteed for every market or position. Check whether it appears for your position and review the transaction details before confirming. If it is unavailable, you will need a supported route to obtain GHO or otherwise make the debt repayment; do not assume another token can be sent directly as repayment for GHO debt. Aave FAQ

The general rules do not identify the cause of an individual failure. To narrow it down, note the market and chain, the token and amount you tried to repay or withdraw, your wallet balances, the accrued debt, the displayed health factor, reserve liquidity, and the exact error shown by Aave or your wallet.

- If repayment fails, check that the selected asset is GHO, the wallet balance covers the amount due, and any required token approval completed.
- If withdrawal fails, check whether the asset is collateral for an active borrow, whether the requested amount would make the health factor unsafe, and whether the reserve has enough liquidity.
- If the interface and transaction details do not explain the failure, Aave’s FAQ points users to its official Discord for protocol-specific help. It does not guarantee a response or resolution. Aave FAQ
