If USDS appears to trade below $1, first confirm the price and available liquidity across multiple markets. Then check Sky’s current protocol dashboards and the exact conversion route you plan to use. Sky documents routes between USDS and USDC, and between USDS and DAI, but neither a $1 target nor a 1:1 token conversion guarantees that you can exit for one U.S. dollar during a market disruption.
What a USDS depeg would—and would not—mean
USDS is designed to target $1. Its market price can nevertheless move away from that target, and a target is not a guaranteed redemption value. Sky’s legal risk disclosure says USDS could lose its peg because of market pressure, loss of confidence, or issues within the protocol, potentially causing holders losses: Sky Legal Documents: User Risks.
There are two related parts to the peg design: mechanisms intended to support trading near $1, and collateral backing within the protocol. Neither makes every token immediately redeemable for a dollar in every circumstance. In a stressed market, the price you can actually receive depends on the venue, available depth, route capacity and successful transaction execution.
What to check before you act
- Verify the market price and depth. Compare USDS quotes on more than one market. Check the amount available at the quoted price: a last-traded price may not be executable for the size of your position, and a displayed quote can change before a trade settles.
- Check Sky’s current protocol information. Sky points users to its financial dashboard for collateral and financial information, and its onchain dashboard for module and token state. Use the live dashboards rather than relying on figures from an older explainer: Sky.money and Sky Ecosystem product information.
- Inspect the specific route you intend to use. Verify the network, token contract, interface, supported asset, current fees and limits, and whether the route is available and the transaction can complete. Sky says PSM conversions are subject to parameters and governance-set risk controls; availability can also depend on location or other criteria. The product information does not establish execution conditions for every venue or interface.
- Compare the outcome, not just the displayed ratio. Identify which asset you will receive, the executable price and depth, any fee or limit, expected settlement timing, and the transaction and smart-contract risks. A route that exchanges token units at a stated ratio is not necessarily a cash exit at that value.

The USDS-USDC PSM is subject to parameters that can limit convertibility based on collateral and governance-set controls. Sky.money’s June 12, 2026 description of its settings is a dated, protocol-affiliated account, not confirmation of current capacity. Check the live route and terms.

Keep token conversion separate from a dollar exit
Receiving USDC or DAI is not the same as receiving U.S. dollars in a bank account. A token-to-token route only determines the asset delivered under that route’s conditions. Selling the received token, transferring it, or converting it to fiat may involve a separate venue, its own liquidity and fees, and its own eligibility and settlement requirements. The Sky materials cited here do not establish a particular exchange’s execution or fiat off-ramp conditions.
Why collateral dashboards and emergency shutdown are not exit guarantees
Sky describes overcollateralized vaults in which borrowers post approved collateral to mint USDS. If collateral value falls below a liquidation threshold, the vault can be auctioned and proceeds used to repay debt. These mechanisms and dashboard data can help explain protocol state, but a backing figure is not an executable market quote or proof that a holder can withdraw a matching dollar amount on demand. Sky’s product information also notes that PSM conversions are governed by parameters and risk controls.

Do not treat Global Settlement or Emergency Shutdown as a routine holder remedy. Sky’s security documentation calls these mechanisms deprecated and describes the shutdown threshold as very high: Security Mechanisms. The documentation does not establish that holders can invoke a guaranteed recovery mechanism during a depeg.

Sky warns of smart-contract vulnerabilities, market volatility, failed transactions and possible lack of recourse for failed transactions or lost funds. During a fast-moving market, a transaction can fail, a quote can change, or the amount available at a displayed price can be insufficient. Avoid assuming that a displayed conversion ratio, a protocol dashboard value or an unconfirmed transaction guarantees the outcome you want.
