If the GSTAT portal appears to reject your appeal, first check whether it issued a submission receipt and 16-digit filing number. If it did, look for a scrutiny defect in your registered email or the dashboard’s Re-filing tab and correct it through the portal’s defect workflow. If two records appear, do not file again just to clear the display: save the identifiers and evidence, then ask GSTAT support which record is active.
First establish whether the appeal was submitted
A portal error is not, by itself, proof that an appeal was filed or rejected. Sign in and look for a submission receipt or provisional acknowledgement. GSTAT’s official e-filing guidance and application manual describe a successful submission as generating a receipt with a 16-digit filing number. Save the receipt and number.
The provisional acknowledgement is not the final acknowledgement. The final acknowledgement follows scrutiny and case registration. If you have a provisional receipt, keep it while checking for the next status or any defect notice. If there is no receipt or filing number, note the exact time, the screen where the process stopped, and the full error message; do not assume the filing completed.
Check for a scrutiny defect
GSTAT says defect notifications are sent to the registered email address and mobile number, and that users can inspect defects in the dashboard’s Re-filing tab. Check both channels and confirm you are using the contact details associated with the account. A scrutiny defect is different from an unexplained technical error: the former should have a defect notice to guide the correction.

Correct a notified defect through Re-filing
- Sign in and open Appellant Corner → Re-filing.
- Select the relevant filing and choose View Defect. Read the generated defect PDF carefully.
- Correct the information or document identified in the notice, and upload the corrected material.
- Review the revised filing preview to check that the changes and attachments are right.
- Submit the re-filing and save the new receipt and filing reference.
This sequence follows the portal’s application re-filing manual. Correct what the notice specifies; submitting a revised version does not remove the need to meet the underlying scrutiny requirement.
If the portal shows duplicate cases
The official FAQ and manuals explain defect re-filing and how to report technical issues, but do not set out a standard process for merging, deleting, or withdrawing duplicate case records. Treat two displayed records as an unresolved status question, not as proof that one is harmless or that both are valid.

- Save screenshots showing both records, the page address or portal area, and the date and time.
- Keep both case or filing numbers, any ARN/CRN, submission receipts, and relevant payment references.
- Use the GSTAT Help Center’s Report an Issue route or call 1800-103-4782. Ask support to confirm which record is live and what action the Tribunal requires; retain the ticket number and any reply.
Until you receive guidance, avoid submitting another appeal solely to make a duplicate display go away. This is a cautious troubleshooting step: the reviewed public instructions do not prescribe a general duplicate-record remedy.
For an unexplained technical error, report the details
Use Report an Issue in the GSTAT Help Center and include the exact error text, date and time, filing reference, screenshots, and transaction ID if payment was involved. GSTAT also lists 1800-103-4782 and says filers may seek online-filing assistance at an e-Seva Kendra. Keep a copy of the issue report and its tracking number so you can follow up against the same incident.

Separate payment status from filing status
A payment result and an appeal-submission result are not the same thing. The GSTAT FAQ distinguishes statuses such as Fail, Pending, Expired, Status Unknown/Abort, Incomplete, Security Error, and a debit followed by a failed status. A Pending payment can mean you were redirected to a bank or card provider and the account may or may not have been debited.
The FAQ says an item pending or booked for more than seven calendar days is marked expired. It also says that if the account was debited but the portal shows payment failed, a gateway status may not have arrived within 30 minutes; after the aggregator processes a refund, the status may become “Refund Settled.” Check the transaction and the portal’s payment guidance before paying again on the basis of an ambiguous status. If the money was debited or the status remains unclear, report the transaction through the portal support route with its reference.

If an upload fails
Official GSTAT FAQ pages give conflicting file-size advice: one recommends avoiding uploads over 20 MB at 300 dpi or less and suggests splitting files into volumes, while another gives a 50 MB recommendation. The public guidance therefore does not establish one universal size limit. Check the current upload control and relevant manual. If a PDF fails, reduce its size or split it into volumes without making the text illegible; contact support if the upload still does not complete.
Check portal eligibility and deadlines promptly
GSTAT says it hears appeals against orders of GST appellate or revisional authorities under sections 107 or 108 of the CGST Act, and that appeals are filed electronically. Its homepage also carries eligibility guidance relating to the orders, dates, and forms accepted in the portal. An ARN/CRN or filing-window message may therefore indicate that the matter does not match the portal’s stated eligibility, rather than a technical fault.

As checked on 4 October 2026, the GSTAT homepage displayed a notice extending the section 112 appeal deadline to 31 July 2026 and described an intent-to-file route by that date for users facing registration or e-filing problems. Both dates have passed. The public pages reviewed do not establish a later extension, so do not rely on that past route as currently available. Check the latest applicable GSTAT notice or order and seek prompt, case-specific advice from a qualified tax professional about limitation and available options.
