Start with the sending exchange’s transaction history. Find the status and transaction ID (also called a transaction hash or TxID), then check that ID in an explorer for the network used. That tells you whether the transfer is still inside an exchange, has been broadcast, or is confirmed on-chain—and which party is best placed to help.
A blockchain confirmation does not necessarily mean a receiving exchange has credited a deposit. Likewise, a withdrawal marked pending may not yet have been sent to the blockchain. Labels, confirmation thresholds and support procedures vary by exchange, asset, network and region.
First, locate the transfer’s current stage
- Open the sending exchange’s transaction history. Note the exact status and look for a transaction ID (TxID or hash). If there is no ID, the exchange may not have broadcast the transfer yet.
- Check the ID on the explorer for the network actually used. Look for whether the transaction is visible and whether it has confirmations. An explorer cannot diagnose a transfer that has not been broadcast.
- Compare the result with the destination’s deposit record. Check whether the destination supports the exact asset and network, and whether it shows a pending deposit, a hold or an account request.
Coinbase Help advises: “Get the transaction hash from the sender and check the transaction’s confirmation status on the blockchain.” Coinbase Help: Pending transactions.
If a deposit has not arrived
No transaction ID, or the transaction is unconfirmed
Ask the sender or sending exchange for the TxID and the network used. Confirm that the destination address and network match the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions. If an explorer shows the transfer is unconfirmed, the sender or sending exchange is the useful next contact; the receiving exchange cannot credit it before its required network conditions are met. Confirmed on-chain, but not credited
Check that the receiving platform supports the exact asset-and-network combination used. Review account messages for alerts or a request for verification or other information. If the deposit remains missing or is marked on hold, contact the receiving exchange through its official support channel and provide the TxID and relevant account details. Coinbase’s guidance covers checking confirmation status and next steps for a confirmed but missing deposit: Coinbase Help: Pending transactions. Kraken’s deposit guidance distinguishes confirmation, crediting, success and on-hold states: Kraken: Cryptocurrency deposit statuses.
If a withdrawal has not arrived
There is no transaction ID
Read the exact status in the sending exchange’s withdrawal history, then check its account messages and official status page. “Initiated” or “pending” may refer to internal checks or processing; an explorer cannot help until there is a broadcast transaction to look up. If the exchange says the withdrawal is on hold, has failed, or has remained in internal processing beyond its stated guidance, contact the sending exchange through its official support channel.

Do not assume a cancellation request will work after processing has begun. Check that exchange’s cancellation rules and the withdrawal’s current status before relying on cancellation.
There is a transaction ID
Search the TxID on the explorer for the network used. If it is unconfirmed, follow the sending exchange’s guidance while the network processes it. If it is confirmed but the destination has not credited the funds, check that the receiving platform supports the asset and network, then contact that platform—or the destination address owner if you sent to a self-custody wallet—with the TxID. Binance recommends checking withdrawal history and the TxID, and contacting the destination when a confirmed transfer has not appeared: Binance: How to check the withdrawal status on Binance.

What common status labels can—and cannot—tell you
| Status | What to check | Who may be able to act |
|---|---|---|
| Pending or processing | Look for a TxID. Without one, the transfer may still be in exchange processing; with one, inspect its on-chain status. The label alone does not identify the cause. | The sending exchange if there is no TxID or it is still processing; the receiving exchange if the transaction is confirmed but uncredited. |
| On hold | Read the exchange’s details and check account messages for a request or review. | Kraken says an on-hold deposit or withdrawal requires manual review and advises contacting support. Other exchanges may use different procedures. Kraken deposit statuses and Kraken withdrawal statuses. |
| Failed | Inspect the withdrawal record and any error details; check whether the funds returned as expected. | Contact the sending exchange if the reason is unclear or the funds have not returned. |
| Completed or successful | Check what the exchange means by the label and use the TxID to verify the blockchain transaction. | If the transfer is confirmed but absent at the destination, ask the receiving platform or destination address owner to investigate. |
A service-status page can reveal a reported exchange or network incident, but it does not establish the state of your individual transfer. Check the relevant exchange’s official status page alongside the transaction record. Kraken’s live status page is Kraken Status.
Verify the address, asset and network before escalating
- Compare the destination address with the address shown by the receiving platform for that deposit.
- Verify the network selected by the sender is one the receiving platform supports for that exact asset. A matching asset name alone is not enough.
- Review the receiving account for an alert, verification request or other action needed to credit the deposit. Coinbase’s troubleshooting guidance covers status checks, address and network verification, account alerts and requested actions: Coinbase: Send and receive troubleshooting.
An unsupported asset or network can prevent crediting, and recovery may not be available. Do not send another transfer to test the route.

What to include in a support request
Contact the party that controls the stage where the transfer is stuck: the sending exchange for an unbroadcast or internally held withdrawal, and the receiving platform for a confirmed but uncredited transfer. Provide the TxID if one exists, the asset, network, amount, destination address and approximate time, plus the relevant status shown in your account. Use the platform’s official support channel; never share passwords, recovery phrases or authentication codes.
