Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore opening a position, verify the exchange’s current eligibility rules, margin and liquidation mechanics, pricing feeds, total costs, execution conditions, system dependencies, and wallet requirements. These details vary by venue, contract, and jurisdiction; a leverage limit or liquidation estimate on one platform cannot tell you whether another is safe or suitable.
1. Can you use the exchange and this contract?
Start with the exchange’s current terms of service, risk disclosure, contract specifications, and parameter pages. Confirm that both the venue and the specific futures or perpetual-futures product are available where you live. Local rules, product access, and tax obligations differ and may change; do not assume that being able to connect a wallet means you are eligible to trade.
- Check geographic restrictions and any conditions attached to access.
- Read the contract’s settlement and other specifications rather than relying on a general description of the platform.
- Confirm which terms and parameters are currently in force. 1024EX says its risk framework is dynamic and that its latest publications control; MNX says exact limits vary by market.
The official documentation of 1024EX, MNX, and 7.Exchange illustrates venue-specific rules, not settings that apply to all decentralized exchanges.
2. How is your collateral and margin treated?
Find out what assets you can post as collateral, how the venue values them, and whether margin is isolated or cross. Under isolated margin, collateral is assigned to a position; under cross margin, available margin is shared across positions, so losses on one may affect the resources available to others. The precise mechanics depend on the venue’s rules.

- Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- Check whether collateral can lose value relative to the contract or the venue’s accounting unit.
- Look for valuation rules, including any discount or risk adjustment applied to collateral.
- Read the rules on what happens if collateral falls in value or a position becomes under-margined.
Do not treat isolated margin as a guaranteed cap on every possible loss: determine how the venue handles liquidation, fees, and any residual deficit.
3. What can trigger liquidation, and what happens next?
Compare the initial and maintenance margin requirements for the contract and your position size. Then trace the full liquidation process: the trigger price, risk tiers, whether liquidation can be partial, liquidation charges, treatment of open orders, and how the venue handles a shortfall. Check whether an insurance fund or auto-deleveraging process applies and what its rules say.
A position may be closed automatically when its equity falls below the required maintenance threshold. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains, so a relatively small adverse price move can consume a large share of the margin supporting a position. Risk tiers may also mean that requirements change with position size.

Use any displayed liquidation figure as an estimate under the stated assumptions, not as a guaranteed exit price. Rapid moves or price gaps can lead to execution worse than an estimate, and venue-specific rules determine what happens after the liquidation trigger.

Do not assume that the price shown on the chart is the price used to manage risk. A venue may use an index, mark price, last-traded price, or different prices for different functions. Identify the underlying index, its data sources, update frequency, freshness requirements, outlier filters, and fallback behavior.
- Confirm which price is used for margin checks and liquidation.
- Check whether displayed profit and loss or stop triggers use a different price.
- Find out what the venue says happens when data is stale, an oracle feed fails, or the network is disrupted.
Oracle, mark, index, and last-traded prices can serve different purposes and may diverge. A stale or incorrect feed can affect risk checks or cause some actions to pause.

5. What will the position cost to open and hold?
Estimate costs for the trade you actually intend to make, including the time you expect to hold it. Review maker and taker fees, liquidation fees, funding, borrowing charges where applicable, collateral-conversion costs, and chain fees for deposits or withdrawals.
Read the funding formula and interval, and check whether your position would pay or receive funding under the current conditions. Funding can change over time and materially affect a position held for a while. Trading and liquidation fees also affect realized profit or loss, regardless of whether the market moved in your favor.

6. Can you execute or exit at your intended size?
Inspect current liquidity for the specific contract and trade size, not just the headline volume. Check the spread, available depth, estimated slippage, supported order types, price bands, partial-fill behavior, cancellation rules, and any trading-halt conditions. Liquidity can vary by instrument and market conditions.

A stop order is not a promise of a particular fill. 7.Exchange’s risk disclosure, last updated September 2, 2026, states: “No order type, including stop-loss, can guarantee a fill at a specific price.” Consider how a fast move or thin order book could affect the result if you need to exit quickly.
7. Which parts of the system must work for a trade or withdrawal?
Trace the path of key actions: placing and matching orders, settling trades, liquidating positions, and withdrawing funds. Determine which steps happen on chain and which depend on off-chain matching, operators, keepers, bridges, or external services. One documented architecture uses off-chain matching with on-chain settlement, but that is an example, not a category-wide design.
- Verify contract addresses using the exchange’s official documentation.
- Check the scope and date of security audits; an audit is evidence about the reviewed scope, not a guarantee against loss.
- Review upgrade authority and emergency controls, including who can use them and what actions they permit.
- Look for incident disclosures and understand the documented withdrawal path and any conditions that can pause it.
8. Are your wallet and approvals set up safely?
Use the exchange’s official domain and verify the chain, token, destination, and transaction details before signing. Protect your seed phrase and keys, and inspect token approvals so you understand which contracts can use your assets. Revoke permissions you no longer need.

A hardware wallet may be a useful optional tool for key custody, but it cannot prevent every malicious approval, protocol failure, or trading loss. Check that any wallet supports the relevant chain and tokens; keeping control of your keys does not remove market or smart-contract risk.
9. What happens if you cannot act when conditions change?
Consider how you would respond if the chain becomes congested, the interface is unavailable, an oracle is stale, withdrawals are paused, or liquidation occurs while you cannot transact. Identify what the venue says you can do under each condition and what relies on a third party or operator.
Size positions so that adverse outcomes are tolerable without relying on an alert, stop order, or immediate withdrawal to work as intended. If you cannot establish how a failure affects your position or access to funds, treat that uncertainty as part of the risk rather than assuming the system will recover in time.
How to compare two exchanges fairly
Where possible, compare the same contract and intended trade size on both venues. Record the venue’s own current terms and parameters for each item instead of treating one advertised number, such as maximum leverage, as a safety ranking.
