Sonoma Biotherapeutics marked the opening of its Seattle waterfront research and development center with a ribbon cutting on March 25, 2024. The facility at 501 Elliott Avenue West was planned to support research on engineered regulatory T-cell therapies for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, with manufacturing capabilities also part of the company’s original plans.
What the center was designed to do
Sonoma Biotherapeutics, also known as Sonoma Bio, is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing precision-engineered regulatory T-cell therapies. Regulatory T cells, or Tregs, are a type of T cell involved in controlling immune responses. Sonoma says its work is aimed at autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including poly-refractory rheumatoid arthritis. Sonoma’s company overview describes its focus and platform.
In its August 24, 2022 announcement, Sonoma said the center would support research, development, and planned manufacturing for its engineered Treg pipeline. The company described intended capabilities including cell selection, genetic modification, automation, information systems, and cGMP-compliant manufacturing. These were the company’s stated plans, not a description of every capability already operating when the center opened. Sonoma’s facility announcement set out the original scope.
Where it is and what was reported at opening
The center is at 501 Elliott Avenue West on Seattle’s waterfront. Sonoma announced an approximately 83,000-square-foot facility in 2022; GeekWire also reported that total area in its March 2024 opening coverage. The company had occupied three of the building’s four floors, according to GeekWire. GeekWire’s March 25, 2024 report described completed laboratory space with room for roughly 65 scientists.

- 【FILTER IN SECONDS】Filtration can be a pain, taking hours using gravity alone. Our lab vacuum pump, which works at 10L/min, can accomplish the same job in seconds - even with highly viscous liquids. The vacuum pump can save hours in the lab and let you run more experiments - or produce more product. Many of our customers use our lab filtration pump for essential oils, e-juice, home-brewing and more
- 【OIL FREE】Many other pumps need their oil changed after only 12 hours of use. And cheaper models are also notoriously weak and unreliable. The LABFISH vacuum pump uses a powerful, 0.075Mpa oilless small diaphragm pump, which means it isn’t messy and doesn’t need regular maintenance. The pump can pull a vacuum strong enough for most lab or industrial work
- 【ANTI-SLIP】The unique base design, containing four special rubber anti-slip pads, can be steadily fixed on the workbench to prevent the machine from shaking and run more quietly and steadily
- 【COMPACT DESIGN】The small vacuum pump is compact and easy to store when not in use. It is built with sturdy lab-quality materials meant to last for years. The oilless design also guarantees that oil from the pump won’t contaminate your work - a risk in many pumps
- 【APPLICATIONS】Can be used wildly in aerator, nitrogen blower, solid phase extractor, thin layer color developing spray, solvent filter, air sampler and other vacuum pressure need. There are more uses in life. When you need to use a vacuum storage bag with a valve to store food or items, you will find it very convenient
GeekWire reported that the lab included incubators, centrifuges, fume hoods, microscopes, refrigerators, and cryostorage systems. Those details describe institutional research infrastructure, not equipment for consumer use.
How the facility plan developed
- August 24, 2022: Sonoma announced a long-term lease and plans for an approximately 83,000-square-foot research and manufacturing center at 501 Elliott Avenue West.
- Summer 2023: Construction reportedly began following facility design work that started in 2022.
- March 25, 2024: Sonoma held the ribbon cutting. GeekWire reported that three floors housed the company’s occupied space and described the completed laboratory area.
- As reported in March 2024: Two unfinished floors were intended for manufacturing and manufacturing support. GeekWire said the timing of that build-out had not been set.
The unfinished floors matter when interpreting the word “center”: the opening coverage documented substantial lab space, while the manufacturing area remained a future build-out at that time. The available dated reports do not establish whether that work has since been completed.

How the facility connects to Sonoma’s therapies
Engineered Treg therapies are intended to influence immune activity. Sonoma’s facility plans were meant to bring parts of that work—from selecting cells and modifying them genetically through potential manufacturing—under one research and development operation. That describes the company’s stated purpose; it does not mean a therapy is approved or available to patients.
In a September 4, 2024 company update, Sonoma said two Phase 1 trials of SBT-77-7101 were ongoing, studying the candidate in rheumatoid arthritis and hidradenitis suppurativa. The release also discussed the company’s collaboration with Regeneron. This is a dated status report, not confirmation of trial status today. Sonoma’s September 2024 update provides those details.
