Simon Jordan said on talkSPORT on 27 May 2025 that Turki Alalshikh had told him he was interested in Millwall and Southampton. Jordan said he had suggested Sheffield Wednesday, but Alalshikh did not want that club and preferred a southern team. This was Jordan’s account of a private conversation. It was not a confirmed bid, an offer or an agreed deal, and Millwall has denied that takeover talks had substance.
What Jordan actually said
Jordan’s comments were reported by Sport Bible from his talkSPORT appearance on 27 May 2025. Asked about Alalshikh and Millwall, he said: “No it’s not talk, they are interested because they’ve told me.” He then described his own suggestion and the reply he attributed to Alalshikh: “I suggested Sheffield Wednesday to him. He doesn’t want Sheffield Wednesday.” He added the preference he said Alalshikh had given: “He doesn’t want a club in the north. He wants a club in the south.”
Three points follow from those remarks. The claim rests on Jordan’s word about what Alalshikh told him. It describes stated interest and a geographic preference. It does not describe an approach to Millwall’s owners, a valuation or any negotiation.
Millwall’s response
The New Arab reported on 23 May 2025 that Millwall had told it there was “no substance regarding any takeover talks” and that “the club is not for sale.” That denial came four days before Jordan’s remarks, so it does not directly answer them. It does mean the club’s position on record at the time was that no takeover was under way.

BBC Sport’s gossip column on the same day said talks were understood to have taken place, but attributed that to a Daily Mail report rather than to any first-hand source. Readers should therefore treat “talks took place” as a reported claim, not an established fact, and weigh it against Millwall’s denial.

What happened to Sheffield Wednesday
Jordan’s Sheffield Wednesday reference is now historical. On 2 May 2026 the English Football League confirmed that the club’s assets had transferred to Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch, and that Sheffield Wednesday was no longer in administration. The EFL’s chief executive, Trevor Birch, said the period leading up to and following administration had been “an extremely testing time for the Club, and all associated with Sheffield Wednesday, particularly the players, coaching staff, club employees and supporters.”

The EFL also said the club remains subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons, and may sign players in line with an agreed business plan. Nothing in the EFL’s statement links the new ownership to Alalshikh.
The later Derby County proposal
BBC Sport reported on 10 August 2026 that Alalshikh had abandoned a proposed takeover of Derby County. Derby said the club was off the market and would continue under Clowes Developments. This is the most recent English-club episode involving him, and it shows he has pursued English clubs. It does not show current interest in Millwall, and it does not confirm or rule out the 2025 remarks.

What is and is not established
- Established: Jordan publicly said in May 2025 that Alalshikh had told him he was interested in Millwall and Southampton, and that he did not want Sheffield Wednesday.
- Established: Millwall denied on the record, in May 2025, that there was substance to takeover talks and said the club was not for sale.
- Established: Sheffield Wednesday changed hands in May 2026 to Arise Capital Partners, and Alalshikh was not the buyer.
- Not established: any Alalshikh bid, offer or agreement for Millwall, in 2025 or since.
- Not established: whether Alalshikh’s stated preference for a southern club reflects a real plan or a remark made in conversation.
The story therefore rests on one uncorroborated account from May 2025, set against a club denial from the same month. Reports from after that date do not add to it. Anyone repeating it should use the past tense and attach the date.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read takeover rumours like this
- Check who is the original source. A named person describing a private conversation is different from an unnamed “understood” report.
- Compare the date of each statement. A denial or a report can be overtaken by later events.
- Look for documentary follow-up, such as a club statement, a league notice or a filing. Here, the EFL’s May 2026 notice is the only later official document, and it concerns Sheffield Wednesday, not Millwall.
Applying those checks, the 2025 comments are best read as a reported expression of interest from one owner-linked figure, not as evidence of a Millwall takeover in progress.
