Rolex Certified Pre-Owned (RCPO) is a brand-run authentication, servicing and resale program for qualifying second-hand watches sold through participating Official Rolex Retailers. Rolex says eligible watches are at least two years old, return to its workshops for checks, and come with a new two-year international guarantee. A pre-owned Rolex is not automatically an RCPO watch: the designation applies only to watches sold through the program.
What the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned program covers
Rolex introduced the program at certain Bucherer points of sale in 2022 and says it later expanded to other retailers in its worldwide network. The brand’s May 2025 newsroom explanation describes the program as a way to provide brand-confirmed authenticity for second-hand watches at resale. The distinction matters when shopping: “pre-owned” describes a watch’s sales history; “Certified Pre-Owned” is a specific Rolex program status. A used Rolex from a dealer or marketplace does not become RCPO simply because it is authentic or has been serviced.

The company describes the inspection as involving full disassembly. Servicing and testing
Rolex says each RCPO watch is fully serviced and tested in conditions intended to simulate wear. It describes the checks as equivalent to those performed by its after-sales service on newly purchased models. The brand says RCPO watches perform like new, with an important qualification: for some of its oldest models, waterproofness and original precision may differ from modern expectations. What comes with an RCPO watch
Rolex says each program watch is presented with a distinct RCPO seal and a guarantee card marked “Certified Pre-Owned.” The card attests to proper functioning and serves as an official certificate of authentication. Where to find Rolex Certified Pre-Owned watches
Rolex says RCPO watches are available only through certain authorized points of sale in its Official Retailer network. Use Rolex’s retailer locator and contact the local retailer to ask whether it participates and what it currently has in stock. Inventory and participation are retailer-specific.
Bucherer is one named participant: its U.S. program page says it is part of the Official Rolex Retailer network and authorized to sell RCPO watches, with a selection verified by Rolex and a two-year international guarantee. How to compare an RCPO watch with another pre-owned Rolex
The official sources reviewed do not publish program-wide prices or a standardized price premium for certification. Compare the specific watch and its full cost rather than assuming RCPO always costs more—or that certification makes every example a good value.
- Match the reference and condition as closely as possible.
- Ask whether the watch remains in its original configuration and what, if any, genuine parts were replaced.
- Check what is included, such as box, papers and service history; distinguish those items from the RCPO materials Rolex lists.
- Confirm the seller’s status, the guarantee’s start date and terms, and the total price.
These are comparison checks for buyers, not a Rolex-published pricing formula. Rolex does not provide program-wide sales, inventory, failure-rate or price-comparison figures in the cited program materials.
