Revolut CEO and co-founder Nik Storonsky says he wants to build a global technology company from Europe—one he compares with Meta, Google and OpenAI. At a Wave by Vento event in Turin on October 9, 2026, he described an ambition that reaches beyond digital banking, with AI agents and proprietary models among the reported plans. That is a statement of direction, not evidence that Revolut has reached those companies’ scale or that the planned features are broadly available.
What does Storonsky mean by “Europe’s answer” to Meta and Google?
Speaking with Exor CEO John Elkann at Wave by Vento in Turin, Storonsky said: “Our American dream, I mean, in this case, European dream, would be to build a global tech company similar to Meta, Google or OpenAI, but out of Europe.” The Next Web reported his remarks on October 9, 2026. La Repubblica independently reported a similar formulation, naming Meta, Google, Anthropic and OpenAI as comparisons.

The comparison describes the size and reach of the ambition: a technology company founded in Europe with global relevance. It does not mean Revolut has the same scale, business model or product range as those companies, or that it plans to reproduce their services. Storonsky said Revolut should become “something much bigger” than it is today, according to ANSA’s October 9 event report.
How does Revolut’s AI ambition extend beyond banking?
The reported ideas remain closely connected to customers’ money and use of financial services. The Next Web and La Repubblica describe plans for AI agents that could make purchases for customers, analyze their personal finances, and suggest stocks or investment funds. Storonsky also described proprietary AI models trained on transaction data and company data-centre capacity.

These are reported plans, not confirmation of generally available features. The coverage does not establish the models’ performance, when these capabilities might launch, or how the investment suggestions would work in practice. Nor does an AI-generated suggestion amount to a guarantee of suitability or investment results.
Outside agents would require customer authorization
Storonsky also described an interface that would let third-party AI agents interact with Revolut’s agents when a customer authorizes it. That makes permission a central part of the proposed design: an agent acting on a financial account is different from one simply answering a question. The reports do not give a complete security design or a launch date, so they do not establish what actions customers could authorize or what safeguards would apply.

What do Revolut’s reported figures show—and not show?
La Repubblica reported about 80 million Revolut customers in its account of the Turin discussion. That is the figure reported by the newspaper, not an independently audited count in the coverage available here. It illustrates the scale of the existing business as described at the event; by itself, it does not demonstrate that Revolut matches the reach of the companies in Storonsky’s comparison.
In a separate October 9, 2026 interview, La Stampa reported several operating claims from Storonsky: 90% of customer support was fully automated; around 200 engineers and data scientists worked on fraud; and more than 20 models analyzed transactions. Those are his claims as reported by the newspaper, not independently verified results. La Stampa also reported him describing annual revenue as “6 billion,” but the excerpt does not specify the currency or reporting period, so that figure cannot be interpreted reliably.

Why does Storonsky say building a global company is harder in Europe?
Storonsky has argued that Europe’s many markets, languages and regulatory differences make rapid expansion more difficult than in the United States. He also cited access to capital and talent as challenges, according to La Stampa’s interview. Those points are his analysis of the conditions for scaling, not proof that a European company cannot grow globally.
Storonsky has also identified the United States as important to global expansion, while saying products need to adapt to local customer needs, ANSA reported. A European origin, in other words, does not by itself determine where a company operates or how well it serves customers in different markets.

What would show whether the ambition is becoming reality?
The announcement sets out a strategy, but the available event coverage leaves major execution questions open. For a personal-finance customer, the most meaningful evidence would be concrete performance and safeguards, not the comparison with famous technology companies.
