MrBeast’s warning was a question about a possible future—not a claim that AI videos had already taken creators’ jobs. What did MrBeast say about AI videos?
In a post dated October 5, 2025, Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, wrote: “When AI videos are just as good as normal videos, I wonder what that will do to YouTube and how it will impact the millions of creators currently making content for a living,” then added, “Scary times.” Entrepreneur reported the post and its wording on October 6, 2025.
The condition matters: Donaldson was asking what might happen if AI video reached comparable quality. His post did not say that AI videos were already indistinguishable from ordinary videos, or that creators had already lost income. “Millions of creators” describes the people he was concerned about; it is not a count of people displaced by AI.
Why did the warning surface then?
The immediate backdrop in the October 2025 coverage was OpenAI’s Sora 2 app. Entrepreneur described it at the time as an AI-video app through which people could make short clips from text prompts. That is historical context from the week of Donaldson’s post, not an update on the product’s current features or availability.

Donaldson’s concern speaks to a basic economic pressure: if viewers find AI-made videos as compelling as conventional ones, creators may face more competition for attention and the income tied to it. But that is a risk scenario, not evidence of a measured effect on YouTube earnings or creator employment.
What was Adam Mosseri’s counterpoint?
Four days after Donaldson’s post, Instagram head Adam Mosseri offered a more mixed view at Bloomberg Screentime. TechCrunch reported that Mosseri argued most creators were unlikely to use AI to recreate MrBeast’s large sets and elaborate productions. Instead, he suggested the tools could help creators make more or better content by lowering production costs.

That possibility cuts both ways. Lower costs may let an individual creator produce work that once required a larger budget or team. They may also make it easier for many more people to publish, increasing competition. The reports describe these as competing possibilities; they do not measure which effect will dominate or how earnings will change.
Why does authenticity matter alongside income?
Mosseri also pointed to the challenge of judging what is real. He said hybrid content was already common and that the boundary between real and synthetic video would become less clear. His warning to viewers was: “just because they’re seeing a video of something doesn’t mean it actually happened.” TechCrunch attributed that remark to Mosseri.

For creators, viewer trust can be part of the value of a channel, not just the polish of a finished video. If audiences have more difficulty distinguishing real footage from generated or hybrid material, questions about who made a video, who shared it, and why may matter more. Mosseri’s remarks are a perspective on that challenge, not a settled consensus about how audiences or platforms will respond.

The two reports establish what Donaldson said and how Mosseri responded. They do not quantify creator job losses or income declines caused by AI video, and they provide no basis for claiming that displacement has already occurred. They also do not settle whether cheaper production will create more opportunity than competition, or how trust and disclosure will affect creators’ businesses.

For a personal-finance reader, the distinction is important: a warning about a possible change in the market is not proof that a particular creator’s income is at risk today. The available coverage identifies a question worth watching, not a measurable financial outcome.
