What Is the Dub Trading App? How Copy Trading, Fees, and Risks Work

Dub is a U.S. social-investing app that lets eligible users explore portfolios and copy them through a self-directed brokerage account. Learn how Auto-Copy works, what it costs, and what risks and protections apply.

Dub is a U.S. mobile social-investing app that lets eligible users open a self-directed brokerage account, explore investor-created portfolios, and choose to copy them. When Auto-Copy is enabled, later changes to a selected portfolio can trigger corresponding trades in the user’s account.

Dub also offers separately managed Premium Portfolios through its affiliated investment adviser, dub Advisors. Copying a portfolio does not guarantee the same returns, eliminate investment risk, or turn the service into personalized financial advice. SIPC protection, where applicable, does not cover market losses.

How Dub works

Dub combines a brokerage account with social-investing and copy-trading features. The basic idea is that users can examine portfolios created by other investors, choose a portfolio that fits their own objectives and risk tolerance, and either copy it once or authorize future changes to be copied automatically.

The ordinary Copy Program is presented as self-directed investing. In that arrangement, the user—not Dub—decides which portfolio to copy and whether to activate Auto-Copy. Dub Financial, LLC says it executes corresponding trades based on the user’s standing instructions and does not independently select securities, choose trade timing, determine the strategy, or make recommendations for the feature.

HARSKIYER Die Stock Handle M12-M14, 1.5 Inch Adjustable Round Holder
  • Die handle sizes: Includes 1 die stock handle wrench, accommodating size from metric M12 to M14, ensuring compatibility for a variety of threading tasks
  • Durable & rust-resistant: Crafted with a black oxidized coating, the tap wrench offer excellent wear and rust resistance, ensuring long-lasting performance in any work environment
  • Easy and convenient operation: With a user-friendly design and five adjustable screws that securely lock dies in place, our die wrench offers effortless handling and stability during your threading projects, preventing slippage
  • Versatile for multiple industries: Ideal for a wide range of applications, this threading tool is perfect for construction, automotive repairs, DIY home projects, and factories, making it an essential tool for professionals and hobbyists alike
  • Anti-loosening design: Featuring a conical keyhole design, our wrench ensures that dies remain securely in place during operation, allowing for precise and accurate threading without the risk of loosening

That is different from a traditional managed account. It also means that seeing a portfolio on the platform should not be treated as an endorsement or a guarantee that its historical performance will continue.

What you can do in the app

According to Dub’s description of its membership features, users can generally:

  • Discover investor-created portfolios.
  • Review creator profiles and leaderboards.
  • Copy a portfolio one time.
  • Turn on Auto-Copy for subsequent portfolio changes.
  • Create and publish a portfolio of their own.
  • Build watchlists and review analytics.
  • Access educational material and AI-related features offered through the membership.

The specific app experience, feature availability, and labels can change. Brokerage services are provided separately from the membership features.

How to use Dub: the typical process

  1. Check eligibility. Dub’s published eligibility information says applicants generally must be at least 18, have a valid Social Security number, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and have a legal residential address in one of the 50 states, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. An exception may apply to active U.S. military personnel stationed abroad.
  2. Download the app. Dub documents support for both iOS and Android devices.
  3. Apply for a brokerage account. Account opening is subject to the firm’s approval and applicable requirements.
  4. Activate a membership. Dub’s portfolio-discovery and copying features require an active membership. The exact subscription price should be checked at in-app checkout because the reviewed materials do not provide a stable public list price.
  5. Research a portfolio. Look beyond a leaderboard position or headline return. Review the holdings, concentration, investment approach, performance period, and any applicable fees.
  6. Choose one-time copying or Auto-Copy. A one-time copy is a single decision. Auto-Copy gives standing instructions for later changes in the selected portfolio to be reflected through corresponding trades in the user’s account.
  7. Monitor the account. Auto-Copy is not a set-and-forget guarantee. Your circumstances, risk tolerance, cash position, and view of the portfolio can change.

What Auto-Copy actually means

Auto-Copy is best understood as an automated instruction to copy changes—not as a promise that two accounts will be identical.

Even when the same portfolio change is being followed, the user’s trade may differ in timing, execution price, available cash, position size, or other account-specific details. A portfolio creator’s account may also have a different starting balance or tax situation. The result can be different holdings and performance.

Turning Auto-Copy off stops future copied trades. It does not automatically answer what should happen to positions that were already purchased. Existing holdings are a separate decision: a user may need to decide whether to keep, sell, or otherwise manage them, taking account of the consequences of trading.

Auto-Copy also does not remove the need to assess suitability. A portfolio that appears appropriate for its creator may be too concentrated, volatile, aggressive, or otherwise unsuitable for another investor.

Who operates Dub?

The app is operated by DASTA, Inc., but different affiliated entities handle different parts of the service:

Entity Role described in Dub’s materials
dub Financial, LLC Broker-dealer for the self-directed brokerage account and ordinary brokerage activity.
dub Advisors LLC SEC-registered investment adviser associated with the advisory and Premium Portfolio offering.
Apex Clearing Corporation Clearing-broker and custody infrastructure referenced in Dub’s brokerage materials.

This distinction matters. Not every portfolio creator is an investment adviser, and ordinary Copy Program activity is not the same as having dub Advisors manage an account.

What are Premium Portfolios?

Premium Portfolios are a separate advisory offering managed by dub Advisors. They should not be confused with an ordinary user-created portfolio that another customer chooses to copy.

For Premium Portfolios, Dub says the management fee is based on the portion of the account allocated to that portfolio. The fee is disclosed before copying, calculated on an annualized basis, and billed monthly. The published fee schedule says the rate varies by portfolio and generally ranges from 0% to 2.50% per year.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A management fee can apply even when the investment loses value. For example, a fee expressed as an annual percentage may still be charged during a period in which the portfolio declines. Review the disclosure shown before copying rather than assuming that every Premium Portfolio has the same rate.

How much does Dub cost?

There are several separate cost categories to consider:

Membership

Dub requires an active membership for its portfolio-discovery and copying features. The reviewed materials do not establish a single permanent public subscription price. Check the price displayed in the app before subscribing, and review the renewal terms presented at checkout.

Brokerage account fees

Dub Financial’s published brokerage fee schedule lists a $3 monthly maintenance fee. The schedule says the fee is waived for subscribers and for accounts with a monthly average balance of at least $10,000.

Other possible brokerage charges

The fee schedule also identifies possible charges for items such as:

3/8 x 1 Inch Flat Rectangular Bar Stock A36 Mild Steel, Multiple Lengths - Made in USA
  • 3/8 inch x 1 inch flat bar stock
  • Weldable A36 mild steel
  • Uncoated mill finish
  • Cut to a length of 15 inches
  • Made in USA
  • Returned ACH transactions.
  • Paper documents.
  • Account transfers and other irregular services.
  • Regulatory transaction fees.

Fee schedules can change. A reader should verify the current brokerage agreement and fee schedule before opening or funding an account, especially if the account will not have an active membership or a $10,000 monthly average balance.

Premium Portfolio management fees

Premium Portfolio fees are separate from the membership and brokerage charges. The disclosed rate generally ranges from 0% to 2.50% annually, varies by portfolio, and is billed monthly on the allocated portion of the account.

The practical cost is therefore not necessarily one flat fee. Depending on how the account is used, a customer could encounter a membership charge, applicable brokerage fees, Premium Portfolio management fees, and transaction or regulatory charges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dub’s potential order-routing conflict

Dub Financial’s brokerage agreement and disclosures state that the firm may receive payment for order flow from Apex. Payment for order flow is a business arrangement in which a broker may receive compensation connected to where customer orders are routed.

Dub identifies this as a potential conflict of interest and says it maintains policies intended to seek best execution and manage conflicts. The disclosure is important, but it does not by itself prove that any particular order received poor execution. Investors should distinguish between a disclosed potential conflict and evidence about the execution of an individual trade.

Investment risks to understand before copying

Copying does not guarantee matching performance

Displayed historical performance may not continue. Your account may not receive the same price, timing, position size, or result as the portfolio you follow. A strong leaderboard result is not a forecast.

You can lose money

All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Depending on the portfolio, risks may include concentration in a small number of securities, exposure to a particular sector, volatility, market declines, and a strategy that no longer fits your situation.

Social proof can be misleading

Leaderboards and creator profiles can make a portfolio look attractive without answering the questions that matter most: What does it own? How concentrated is it? How long is the performance record? What risks produced the return? What fees apply? How would a loss affect your financial goals?

  • Compatible with 1" Hex Dies: Designed specifically for 1" across-the-flat hex dies, this die stock is perfect for a variety of threading applications in wood, metal, and other materials

Auto-Copy can continue after your circumstances change

A strategy selected when your finances were different may keep generating trades until you disable it. Review active copying instructions periodically and do not assume that the app will determine whether a portfolio remains suitable for you.

Fees reduce returns

Membership, management, brokerage, and other charges can reduce the amount that remains invested or the return you ultimately keep. A fee charged during a losing period still increases the account’s overall cost.

What SIPC protection does—and does not—cover

SIPC protection is not investment insurance and is not a guarantee against losses. If an eligible SIPC-member brokerage fails, SIPC may help protect missing cash and securities, subject to legal limits and conditions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

SIPC generally does not cover:

  • A decline in the market value of an investment.
  • A portfolio that underperforms.
  • Losses caused by a poor investment decision.
  • A promise that Auto-Copy will match another account.

In short, custody protection and market-loss protection are different concepts. SIPC may address a brokerage failure involving missing assets; it does not make a risky portfolio safe.

A practical checklist before enabling Auto-Copy

Before copying a portfolio, ask:

  • What do I actually own? Review every holding, not only the portfolio name or creator description.
  • How concentrated is it? A portfolio dominated by one company, asset class, or sector may carry more risk than its recent performance suggests.
  • What is the performance period? A short or favorable period may not represent performance across different market conditions.
  • What is the methodology? Understand what causes the creator or adviser to buy, sell, or rebalance.
  • What fees apply? Check membership, brokerage, Premium Portfolio, and any other applicable charges.
  • Does it fit my situation? Consider goals, time horizon, emergency savings, risk tolerance, and financial capacity for losses.
  • What happens if I turn Auto-Copy off? Confirm that disabling it stops future copied trades, then separately decide how to handle positions already held.
  • Can I tolerate a result different from the displayed portfolio? If not, copying may create expectations the product cannot guarantee.

Who Dub may suit—and who should be cautious

Dub may appeal to an eligible U.S. investor who wants a mobile way to research investor-created portfolios and understands that copying remains a self-directed investment decision. It may also interest someone who wants to build and publish a portfolio rather than only follow others.

It may be a poor fit for someone seeking guaranteed returns, individualized advice through the ordinary Copy Program, a completely hands-off account, or protection from market losses. Someone who cannot tolerate large declines should be especially cautious about copying portfolios based mainly on recent returns or popularity.

Investors seeking professional management should distinguish the Premium Portfolio advisory service from the ordinary Copy Program and review the applicable advisory fee and disclosures before making a decision.

Bottom line

Dub is a U.S.-focused social-investing and copy-trading platform, not a promise to duplicate another investor’s results. Eligible users can open a self-directed brokerage account, explore portfolios, copy one manually, or enable Auto-Copy so later portfolio changes can generate corresponding trades. Separate Premium Portfolios are managed through dub Advisors and can carry portfolio-specific management fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dub a brokerage account?

Dub provides access to a self-directed brokerage account through dub Financial, LLC, while the app also supplies social-investing and copy-trading features. Apex Clearing Corporation is referenced as the clearing and custody infrastructure provider in Dub’s brokerage materials.

Does Dub automatically invest my money?

Not by default in the sense of Dub independently selecting a strategy for every user. In the ordinary Copy Program, you choose a portfolio and may enable Auto-Copy, which gives standing instructions for corresponding trades when that portfolio changes. Premium Portfolios are a separate advisory offering.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I lose money with Dub?

Yes. All investing involves risk, including loss of principal. Copied performance is not guaranteed, and your results may differ from the selected portfolio.

How do I stop Dub Auto-Copy?

Disable Auto-Copy in the app to stop future copied trades. Disabling the feature does not automatically sell or otherwise resolve positions that were already copied; existing holdings are a separate decision.

Is Dub available outside the United States?

Dub is a U.S.-oriented product. Its published eligibility information generally refers to U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a residential address in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, with a possible military exception. Do not assume overseas residents or travelers have uninterrupted access.

The Bottom Line

Dub lets eligible U.S. users discover and copy investment portfolios, but it does not guarantee matching performance or remove the need for research. Check the current in-app membership price, brokerage fee schedule, portfolio holdings, concentration, and any Premium management fee before enabling Auto-Copy.
