What is Stitch Fix?
Stitch Fix combines a personalized clothing recommendation service with direct online shopping. Its Fix option sends a curated assortment of apparel, shoes, and accessories selected with the help of algorithms and a human stylist, according to the company’s investor description (Stitch Fix investor materials). Freestyle is the alternative: a personalized shop where you browse and buy individual items.

The distinction matters for budgeting. A Fix has a styling fee, separate from the merchandise price. Freestyle does not have a styling fee, though you pay for any items you order.
How does a Stitch Fix order work?
- Create an account and complete your Style Profile. Stitch Fix asks about sizing, fit, style, lifestyle, and budget to personalize selections. You can set a price range for each type of item (Stitch Fix pricing; Stitch Fix Support).
- Schedule a Fix. You can request one when you want a wardrobe refresh or choose a recurring delivery cadence. There is no requirement to receive a Fix every month.
- Tell the stylist what you need. A human stylist is matched to you, and you can use a request note to describe what you want in that shipment. Feedback on what you keep and return can inform future selections.
- Try the Fix at home. Keep the items you want and return the rest. Stitch Fix says shipping, returns, and exchanges are free (Stitch Fix pricing).
- Check out for what you keep. The styling fee is applied as a credit to items kept from that same Fix; it cannot be applied to a later order.
You can also shop Freestyle directly. Stitch Fix Support says access follows completing the Style Profile and scheduling a first Fix. Freestyle’s personalized inventory can change, and shipping and returns are free under the company’s published policy (Stitch Fix Support).

How much does Stitch Fix cost?
For U.S. customers, Stitch Fix’s current published terms list a $20 styling fee per Fix after the advertised first-Fix offer. The pricing page currently advertises waiving the first $20 fee and $20 off the first checkout; offers can change, so check the live offer and your account terms before ordering (Stitch Fix pricing).

The item ranges and fee are company-published terms, not a guarantee that every category or item will be available at every price. You choose price ranges by item type in your Style Profile, and Stitch Fix says the stylist aims to select within them (Stitch Fix Support).

How the $20 credit works
The credit is limited to items kept from the Fix that incurred the fee. For example, Stitch Fix Support says that if you keep a $50 top, the $20 styling-fee credit leaves $30 due for that item at checkout. If you keep nothing, the fee is the amount charged for that Fix. The fee is usually charged about two weeks before delivery, is non-refundable, cannot be transferred to another person, and does not roll over to a later Fix (Stitch Fix Support).
Discount for keeping multiple items
Stitch Fix Support lists a 20% discount when you keep five or more items in a women’s or men’s Fix. For a Kids Fix, the discount applies when you keep the entire Fix. Check the terms presented with your order for how the discount applies alongside other credits or offers (Stitch Fix Support).

A Fix may suit you if you want a stylist to assemble options and are comfortable with the fee’s same-order credit terms. Freestyle may suit you if you prefer to choose each item yourself and want to avoid a styling fee. In either case, the Style Profile lets you set size, style, and budget preferences.

No monthly subscription is required, according to Stitch Fix’s pricing FAQ. You can request a Fix when you want rather than commit to a monthly box. If you select recurring deliveries, that cadence is a scheduling choice; each Fix still has its applicable styling fee. Freestyle is direct shopping and does not carry a styling fee (Stitch Fix pricing).

What to check before placing an order
- Review the current first-Fix promotion and whether it appears on your account; it may change.
- Confirm the styling fee and delivery timing shown for your Fix. The fee is typically charged about two weeks before delivery and is not refunded if you keep nothing.
- Set realistic price ranges for each item type in your Style Profile, then review item prices before checkout.
- Decide whether you want stylist-selected options or prefer to buy items individually through Freestyle.
- Check the discount terms for your Fix type if you expect to keep multiple items.
