Her family’s wealth is documented, but it does not show how much she personally owns today.
Is Patty Hearst’s net worth known?
There is no substantiated current personal net-worth total in the sources cited here. Biography.com’s profile, updated June 17, 2020, and the FBI’s account describe Hearst’s background and public life but do not provide a personal balance sheet or verified valuation: Biography.com’s Patty Hearst biography and the FBI’s Patty Hearst case history.
Net worth means the value of a person’s assets minus liabilities at a given time. Without transparent, credible information about both, a specific dollar amount cannot be treated as a reliable estimate. A figure repeated by a secondary website is not verified merely because it appears online.
Why the Hearst family fortune is not her personal net worth
Patricia Hearst is the granddaughter of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. The FBI describes her as coming from a wealthy, powerful family, and Biography.com also documents that family connection. Those facts establish her background; they do not establish her individual assets, debts, inheritance, or present finances.

An academic thesis hosted by the University of California discusses conflicting estimates of her father Randolph Hearst’s wealth during the 1974 kidnapping crisis and notes that the Symbionese Liberation Army overestimated it. Those historical estimates concern Randolph, in a particular period, and cannot be transferred to Patty Hearst or used as a current valuation of her personal wealth: the thesis record at UC eScholarship.
What is documented about Patty Hearst?
Hearst was kidnapped in 1974 and arrested in September 1975, after 19 months, according to the Associated Press’s February 4, 2024, account of the case’s 50th anniversary. The FBI says she was convicted, that President Jimmy Carter later commuted her sentence, and that she was subsequently pardoned. These are biographical and legal facts, not evidence of her current finances.

For accounts of Hearst’s life and the kidnapping, Simon & Schuster lists Patricia Hearst’s autobiography, Patty Hearst: Her Own Story. Penguin Random House lists Jeffrey Toobin’s American Heiress, a history of the kidnapping and its aftermath. Neither book is a financial record or a source for a current net-worth figure.
