NuPay is Nubank’s online checkout payment method for its customers in Brazil. At a participating merchant, a customer selects NuPay and authorizes the purchase in the Nubank app rather than entering card or account details on the merchant’s site or app. Nubank launched the service in March 2022; availability, payment options and any credit features depend on the customer and checkout.
How NuPay works at checkout
- Choose NuPay as the payment method at a participating merchant’s online checkout.
- Follow the prompt to open or switch to the Nu app and review the payment.
- Authorize the transaction in the app using Nubank’s authentication process, which Nubank describes as including a four-digit password.
Nubank says the flow means customers do not need to enter card or account details on the merchant’s site or app. The company presents in-app authorization as a security layer; that is Nubank’s product claim, not evidence that NuPay has a lower fraud rate than cards or other payment methods.
Nubank describes confirmation as taking a few clicks and seconds. The actual checkout flow can depend on the merchant and transaction.
Who can use NuPay, and where?
NuPay is intended for Nubank customers. Nubank’s regulation, effective February 2, 2026, describes the payment instrument as domestic and says it can be issued and used only in Brazil, for purchases of goods and services. A merchant’s presence in an announcement does not by itself establish that NuPay is available at every checkout or to every customer.

Payment options and possible credit features
Depending on the customer and purchase, Nubank says NuPay may offer payment from an account balance or credit, additional credit limit, and installment payments of up to 24 times. These are possible features, not guaranteed terms: eligibility, availability, installment length and any applicable costs can vary by customer, merchant and transaction. Check the terms shown in the app and at checkout before confirming.
Where Nubank has announced NuPay acceptance
Nubank has announced integrations with several companies. These announcements establish acceptance at the time and scope described, not universal or current availability at every merchant location or checkout.

The partner counts in Nubank’s announcements differ because they are dated snapshots and may use different scopes. They should not be combined or read as a current total. Check the merchant’s checkout for current acceptance.
NuPay for merchants
Nubank describes NuPay for Business as a payment platform for e-commerce. Its regulation identifies NuPay for Business as the operator of the closed payment arrangement and Nu Pagamentos as the acquirer for merchants and issuer for users. A Brazilian merchant considering integration should confirm current onboarding requirements and commercial terms directly with Nubank; the cited material does not establish current terms or a referral program.

How to decide whether to use NuPay
NuPay is an additional checkout option, not a separate Nubank account tier. It may suit a customer who prefers authorizing a purchase in the Nu app instead of entering card details on a merchant site, provided the merchant offers it. Before choosing, check:
- Whether NuPay appears in that merchant’s checkout.
- Whether the purchase is being paid from balance or credit.
- Whether any additional limit or installment option is offered for this transaction, and the terms displayed.
- Whether you would rather use the app-based authorization flow or another payment method available at checkout.
The available company announcements do not establish that NuPay is universally safer, cheaper or more likely to be approved than a card or another payment method.
