Nubank announced on June 5, 2025, that it received Brazil’s Fraud Prevention Seal, an initiative coordinated by the National Confederation of Financial Institutions (CNF). The seal recognizes financial institutions for commitments to prevent and combat fraud and scams and to raise awareness about them. Nubank says certification follows a technical evaluation by an independent consultancy, but its announcement does not name the consultancy or publish detailed evaluation criteria.

What the Fraud Prevention Seal recognizes

According to Nubank’s June 5, 2025 announcement, the CNF launched the Brazilian initiative in 2024. It recognizes financial institutions committed to good practices in preventing and combating fraud and scams, as well as raising awareness about them.

Nubank describes the certification as following a technical evaluation by an independent consultancy. The announcement does not identify the firm, specify a scoring threshold, or set out a detailed assessment standard. The available information therefore supports describing the seal as recognition under a CNF-coordinated initiative—not as a particular named audit or publicly documented technical benchmark.

Security measures Nubank cited

In its announcement, Nubank pointed to app and web protections including Verified Call, Street Mode, Protected Call, a reporting channel, an emergency theft-response page, Security Hub, Protection Pack, and Smart Defenses. The company described these features as part of its security approach; the announcement does not provide independent effectiveness results for them.

How the named features were described in 2025

  • Verified Call: An in-app way to check whether a call is from Nubank.
  • Street Mode: Customer-set limits for Pix, TED, and boleto payments when outside a secure Wi-Fi network.
  • Protected Call: Automatic blocking of calls identified as suspicious and associated with fake customer-service centers.
  • Other protections: Nubank also listed a reporting channel, an “I Got Stolen” emergency site, Security Hub, Protection Pack, and Smart Defenses.

These descriptions come from the company’s 2025 announcement. Nubank’s consumer blog, updated September 14, 2026, provides later company-published descriptions of protections including Street Mode limits and facial recognition for certain transactions outside trusted Wi-Fi networks, behavior-based Smart Defenses, device authentication, Verified Call, virtual cards, Pix limits, scam reporting, and an emergency account-response page. Features and availability can change; consult Nubank’s current app or help information for details that apply to your account.

What the seal does—and does not—establish

The seal is not, on the information Nubank published, a guarantee that an account cannot be compromised or that a customer will avoid losses. The cited announcement and feature descriptions do not report a controlled study or measured reduction in fraud losses attributable to the seal or to the listed tools. Recognition of a prevention commitment should not be confused with proof of a specific security outcome.

Nubank’s Head of Fraud, Emma Whitfield, said the recognition strengthened trust and described the company’s controls as going beyond regulatory requirements. Those are statements by a company representative about the award, not independent findings about the effectiveness of its protections.

Customer figures in context

Nubank’s June 2025 announcement reported more than 118 million customers, including over 104 million in Brazil. These are company-reported figures from that announcement, not independently verified current totals. A separate Nubank blog article updated September 14, 2026 reported more than 135 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. The later figure covers a broader geography and a different date, so it should not be treated as a like-for-like update to the Brazil-only portion of the 2025 announcement.
