Hideaki Itsuno is leading LightSpeed Japan Studio, announced in November 2024 to develop original AAA action games. In March 2025, LightSpeed said Itsuno had begun early work on an original AAA game, but did not announce its name, platforms, release date, or preorder details. The latest project status established by the sources cited here is from 2025; it should not be read as a confirmed October 2026 update.
What is LightSpeed Japan Studio?
LightSpeed Studios announced the establishment of LightSpeed Japan Studio on November 12, 2024. The studio operates across Tokyo and Osaka and was presented as part of the company’s global expansion. The announcement described plans for a flexible, inclusive working environment and technology supporting multiple platforms and devices. Those are the company’s stated aims; they do not establish which platforms a particular game will support or how the studio’s work environment has developed since launch.
What game is Hideaki Itsuno working on?
In a March 20, 2025 update about an original-IP initiative, LightSpeed Studios said Itsuno had entered the early stages of developing an original AAA game. The statement did not reveal a title, gameplay footage, final platforms, release window, or preorder. It also did not identify the project as a Devil May Cry or Dragon’s Dogma sequel. Itsuno described the team’s ambition as developing gameplay that could give players an experience they had not seen before. That is a stated creative goal, not a description of confirmed game mechanics. The available announcements therefore answer what kind of project is in development, but not what the game will be like or when it will be released.
Where is the studio based, and how is it organized?
LightSpeed Japan Studio has offices in Tokyo and Osaka. In a September 1, 2025 interview, Itsuno said both offices would include all departments rather than dividing development responsibilities between them. He also said the Osaka office helped attract experienced developers who had family or other commitments that made relocating difficult. In that interview, Itsuno also described plans to build a primarily Japanese team focused on console games and Japanese development know-how. That context helps explain the studio’s intended structure, but it does not confirm the platform lineup of the unnamed game.

Itsuno’s previous work includes the Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma series, along with projects such as Rival Schools, Power Stone, and Capcom VS. SNK. LightSpeed’s launch announcement identified him as the studio’s leader; Gematsu reported that he left Capcom in September 2024 after 30 years and included Dragon’s Dogma II among his directing credits. That background explains interest in the new project, but it cannot establish its genre details, quality, or connection to those earlier series. The firm distinction so far is that LightSpeed announced original-IP development rather than naming a sequel.
