Crypto market cap excluding the top 10 is not the same as TOTAL3. On TradingView, the OTHERS family tracks a provider-defined group of leading cryptoassets after excluding Bitcoin and other top-ranked coins; the specific OTHERSBTC ticker expresses that group’s market capitalization relative to Bitcoin, rather than showing a market-cap total. Check the exact ticker, units, and index provider before interpreting a chart.
What is the crypto total market cap excluding the top 10?
It is an aggregate market-cap measure for a selected group of cryptoassets after a provider excludes specified leading assets. There is no single universal “total market cap excluding the top 10”: the result depends on the provider, which assets it tracks, the exclusion rule, and the date.
TradingView’s related OTHERS indices are calculated from its top 125 cryptocurrencies. Its TOTAL index also represents that finite top-125 universe, rather than every cryptoasset in existence. TradingView says the coins excluded from OTHERS can be inspected on its cryptocurrency dominance page. Membership can change as rankings change, so the provider and date are part of the metric’s definition.
Is that the same as TOTAL3?
No. TradingView defines TOTAL3 as the market capitalization of its top 125 cryptocurrencies excluding Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The OTHERS family uses a broader, ranking-based exclusion of leading assets. The two labels therefore describe different groups.

| TradingView symbol | What it represents | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| TOTAL3 | Top-125 cryptocurrency market capitalization, excluding BTC and ETH | Aggregate capitalization, not a top-10-excluded measure |
| OTHERS | Top-125 cryptocurrency market capitalization excluding BTC and other leading coins; see TradingView’s dominance page for the excluded assets | Aggregate capitalization for the remainder defined by the index |
| OTHERSBTC | Top-10-excluded capitalization divided by Bitcoin capitalization | A ratio relative to Bitcoin, not a capitalization total in currency units |
TradingView also lists separate symbols for variants that exclude stablecoins, such as TOTAL3ES. Check the symbol’s definition rather than assuming stablecoins are included or excluded.
How is crypto market capitalization calculated?
Individual assets
Market capitalization is generally calculated as price multiplied by circulating supply. TradingView describes its symbol formula as last price × circulating supply. CoinGecko gives the same general USD formulation and notes that its global market capitalization sums the projects it tracks.

Aggregate indices
An index combines the market capitalizations of the assets in its stated universe. Because providers track different assets and apply different inclusion and exclusion rules, their “total” figures may not be directly comparable. A rank-based group can also change composition over time.
How do I read the OTHERS chart?
- In TradingView, search the CRYPTOCAP symbols for OTHERS, OTHERSBTC, or TOTAL3. TradingView says its indices are calculated by the platform and available under that prefix.
- Confirm the exact ticker and units. OTHERS is an aggregate capitalization series; OTHERSBTC is a ratio against Bitcoin; TOTAL3 excludes BTC and ETH rather than the top 10.
- Open TradingView’s dominance page to inspect the current leading assets excluded from OTHERS.
- When comparing charts, align the date range and check the provider’s universe, exclusion rule, and stablecoin treatment.
The leading-asset list is a snapshot, not a permanent definition. At the time TradingView’s dominance page was accessed for this article, it displayed Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether USDt, BNB, XRP, USDC, Solana, TRON, Hyperliquid, and Zcash before Others. Rankings and membership can change.
Does a rising OTHERS market cap mean money is flowing into altcoins?
Not by itself. An aggregate market-cap value can rise because prices increase, circulating supplies change, the included universe changes, or several of these happen together. The chart does not identify net money flows or prove that an altcoin-wide rally is underway. TradingView notes that a rise may reflect interest or sentiment, but cautions against basing decisions on one metric alone.
Use the chart as one descriptive measure, alongside the exact index methodology and other relevant information. It is not, on its own, evidence that a particular asset is undervalued or that a market trend will continue.
Rank #4
What should I check before comparing “ex-top-10” charts?
- Exclusion rule: BTC and ETH only, as with TOTAL3, or a provider-defined group of top-ranked assets.
- Coverage: TradingView’s top-125 universe or another provider’s tracked assets.
- Measure: capitalization in currency units or a ratio such as OTHERSBTC.
- Stablecoins: whether the chosen symbol includes them.
- Composition date: whether rank changes have altered the included or excluded assets.
These distinctions matter more than the shorthand label. Two charts called “altcoin market cap” may represent different asset groups and different kinds of measurement.
