American Airlines Premium Economy is a separate cabin that sits between Main Cabin and the airline’s premium cabins. On the international flights that operate it, it adds a wider adjustable leather seat with more legroom, a meal service with complimentary beer, wine, and spirits (on flights with full drink service), personal on-demand entertainment, Wi-Fi where offered, and a power outlet and USB port at every seat. It is not on every international itinerary, so the aircraft on your specific booking decides what you get.
Where Premium Economy is flown
American’s Premium Economy page lists the cabin on select Boeing 777-300, 777-200, and 787-9 aircraft, and on 787-8 flights operating internationally and to Alaska. The page does not publish a route-by-route availability table, and aircraft assignments can change by date. A route that carried Premium Economy last season may be flown with a different aircraft this season, so treat any route-level claim as something to confirm on the day you book.
The 777-300ER retrofit
American’s newsroom announcement about a newly retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER says the aircraft “offers more Business and Premium Economy seats than any U.S. carrier.” That is the airline’s own comparative claim. The announcement gives no seat count or comparison method, so it should not be read as proof that every 777-300ER flies with Premium Economy.
How to confirm the cabin on your booking
- Open your reservation and note the aircraft type shown for each flight segment, not just the flight number.
- Check that the cabin you are paying for appears on that segment. A connecting itinerary can include a 777-300ER on one leg and a different aircraft on the next.
- If you are changing flights, re-check the aircraft after the change, because the new segment may be operated by a different type.
The seat
American describes the Premium Economy seat as wider and adjustable, with more legroom than Main Cabin and extendable foot and head rests. The page is leather-upholstered and adjustable, and that is the extent of its physical description. It does not publish seat width, seat pitch, or recline figures, so any comparison of exact space should be made by checking seat maps and specifications for your aircraft rather than relying on the cabin description alone.

Meals and drinks
The cabin is described as offering chef-inspired meals and complimentary beer, wine, and spirits on flights with full drink service. Two qualifications matter. The alcohol is tied to full drink service, so a shorter or lighter-service flight may not carry it. American also notes that the number of drinks may be limited, which means the free allowance is not unlimited even when alcohol is included.
Entertainment and connectivity
Each Premium Economy seat has personal on-demand entertainment on a larger monitor, with noise-reducing headphones. Every seat includes power outlets and USB ports. Wi-Fi is listed as part of the cabin, but the page does not promise it on each individual itinerary, so if connectivity matters for your trip, check whether Wi-Fi is listed for the specific flight before you travel.

Bedding and amenity kit
The page lists premium bedding and an amenity kit for international flights and for select flights to and from Los Angeles and New York. The benefit is therefore geography-specific. Do not assume it applies to a domestic or non-listed route simply because you are flying Premium Economy.
What the fare includes
American’s cabin page lists priority privileges: priority check-in, priority security and boarding, and checked bags delivered first on arrival. The agency-facing Product Overview PDF, revised April 21, 2026, adds fare-level detail, shown below. Benefits tied to AAdvantage status can add to these, and they may differ from the base fare.

Lounge access and AAdvantage status
Lounge access does not appear among the Premium Economy fare benefits in the April 21, 2026 agency overview. Do not assume the ticket alone gets you into a lounge. Any lounge entitlement depends on your AAdvantage status or another qualifying eligibility, and the rules that govern those benefits are separate from the cabin itself.
