There is no single reliable price for a Kodak Brownie: the name covers many models and film formats. MarketplaceIQ’s October 4, 2026 snapshot puts common Brownie variants at a $15 median, with a reported range of $6–$35, while noting rare pieces above $400. Those figures combine variants, so they are only broad market context—not an appraisal of your camera. MarketplaceIQ
Why Brownie cameras have such different values
Kodak used the Brownie name for a wide family of cameras. The Science Museum Group records, for example, a No. 1 Brownie Model B designed for 117 roll film and Six-20 models associated with 620 film. Model, construction, and format matter more than the Brownie name alone. Science Museum Group: No. 1 Brownie Camera Model B; Science Museum Group: Six-20 Brownie
Age by itself does not prove rarity. Kodak introduced the original Brownie in 1900 as an inexpensive camera for a mass market. The museum says its price was $1 at launch; that is historical context, not a present-day value. It also reports that more than 100,000 Brownies sold in the first production year and millions of later examples followed. Science Museum Group: No. 1 Brownie Camera Model B; Science Museum Group: Six-20 Brownie

| Leitz Auction result, November 2006, as reported by CameraWorth | £190 hammer price for a 1900-type Brownie | CameraWorth says this is its only recorded result for the type and too sparse to establish a reliable current range. A hammer price is not necessarily a buyer’s total cost or a seller’s net proceeds. CameraWorth |
These sources do not establish an up-to-date price range for a particular Brownie model. Active listing prices are asking prices, not proof of what a buyer paid. For a useful estimate, compare completed sales of the same model in similar condition and in the relevant country.

Identify the exact model first
- Gather clear photos. Photograph all sides and the interior, including the lens, shutter, viewfinder, winding parts, labels, and any model or film-format markings.
- Check the name and format. Compare the markings and construction with museum collection records or reliable model references. Film-format differences can help distinguish variants; the museum records identify 117 roll film for the No. 1 Brownie Model B and 620 film for Six-20 models. Science Museum Group: No. 1 Brownie Camera Model B; Science Museum Group: Six-20 Brownie
- Keep uncertain identifications open. If markings are missing or the camera does not match a reference clearly, describe it as unidentified or possibly a particular model rather than assigning a confident model name.
Compare like with like
Once you have the model, look for recent completed sales of that same variant. Keep these distinctions visible when comparing examples:
- Exact model and variant, not simply “Brownie.”
- Country, venue, and sale date.
- Completed sale price versus active asking price.
- Auction hammer price versus the buyer’s total after fees.
- Camera-only sale versus one including a box, case, paperwork, or accessories.
- Cosmetic condition and whether key parts are present.
- Tested function versus untested or unknown function.
The available evidence does not support a fixed dollar adjustment for any one condition or completeness factor. Treat each comparable as evidence about that particular sale, not a price rule for all Brownies.

Describe condition and function accurately
Separate visible wear from claims about operation. Note scratches, dents, corrosion, missing parts, or damaged coverings, and say plainly when the camera has not been tested. Do not call it working unless relevant functions, including the shutter, have actually been checked. The available evidence does not establish current film availability, so do not imply that a specific camera is ready to use without verifying its film format and supply.
For an unusually early, complete, or apparently rare example, the 1906 auction record is too old and isolated to serve as a current estimate. Seek recent, model-specific completed sales or an appraisal based on the camera’s exact identity and condition.
