Uplevel announced a $20 million funding round on July 13, 2022, led by Cota Capital. The Seattle startup sells engineering intelligence software that uses workflow data to help leaders understand how teams are working—not a definitive score of an individual engineer’s value.
What Uplevel does
Uplevel analyzes signals from software development tools to help organizations assess engineering effectiveness. In 2022, GeekWire described the product as surfacing conditions such as too many meetings, too many concurrent tasks, and too little protected focus time. These are team-workflow signals that can inform management decisions, rather than a simple count of code or other raw output.
The company’s stated aim was to help engineering teams meet product goals without burning out. In its funding blog, Uplevel expressed the principle this way: “Output alone is not enough to determine effectiveness.” That is the company’s perspective on measuring work, not independent evidence that its software improves productivity or prevents burnout.
How the $20 million round was structured
Uplevel’s July 13, 2022 announcement said Cota Capital led the $20 million round. Existing investors Norwest, Madrona, and Voyager participated, along with individual investors Harris Barton and Bruce Chizen. The announcement also named Nimrod Vered as the company’s CTO.

At the time, GeekWire described Uplevel as a five-year-old Seattle company and reported that customer accounts had doubled over the preceding year. Those are historical figures reported in 2022, not current company metrics.
What is known about Uplevel now
Uplevel’s company page currently describes its offering as an engineering intelligence platform for larger engineering organizations, alongside an advisory service called the Uplevel Method. The page also presents customer-result claims; those are company-reported case claims and should not be treated as independently established outcomes or typical results.

The available sources do not establish Uplevel’s current revenue, valuation, customer count, or operating status, nor do they identify an independent study showing that the platform causes higher productivity or lower burnout. CEO Joe Levy summarized the company’s goal in the 2022 funding announcement: “We are helping organizations work more effectively, retain their engineering talent, and deliver products their teams are proud to build.” That statement describes the company’s intended value, not a verified result for every customer.
