Medlin, 15, of Saint James, New York, was reported missing in January 2026; police later said his body was recovered in Brooklyn on March 7 and his identity was confirmed on March 12. The department’s update does not state a cause or manner of death.
What happened to Thomas Medlin?
Medlin left the Stony Brook School at about 3:30 p.m. on January 9, 2026, and ran to the Stony Brook train station. Police initially said he was last seen at Grand Central Terminal at about 5:30 p.m. Their later account placed his last known location on the pedestrian walkway of the Manhattan Bridge at 7:06 p.m.
According to Suffolk County Police, his cellphone’s last activity was at 7:09 p.m. A nearby surveillance camera captured a splash in the water at 7:10 p.m., and police said he was never seen leaving the bridge by its path exits. Those reported observations do not establish a medical cause or manner of death.
Did investigators find a connection between Roblox and the disappearance?
No. Suffolk County Police said they examined multiple social-media and online-gaming profiles and electronic devices under subpoenas and search warrants. The department’s March 12 update said: “This examination has determined these platforms are not connected to his disappearance.” It also said: “There is no indication of criminal activity.”

That police finding came after early reports that Medlin’s mother believed, or had been told, he might have planned to meet someone he encountered on Roblox. That was an early reported belief, not a verified account of what happened. Police’s later statement addressed the wider digital examination and said the platforms reviewed were not connected to the disappearance.
What did Roblox say its investigation found?
Roblox publicly described its own review on January 26. The company said it found no attempt to move Medlin to off-platform communication, no sharing of off-platform contact information, and no indication that he used voice chat. Roblox characterized the in-game chat as typical discussions.
