What Happened When Influencer Arii Tried to Launch a Clothing Brand in 2019

In 2019, influencer Arii said her clothing line could not go into production because it missed the manufacturer’s minimum order requirement. Some customers had placed orders; the problem was that the threshold was not met. The often-repeated figure of 36 was not the full collection target: Arii later clarified that the manufacturer required 36 orders for each product, or 252 total, according to PerthNow’s June 1, 2019 report.

What happened to Arii’s clothing line?

In late May and early June 2019, Arii—then described by PerthNow as an 18-year-old Instagram influencer with 2.6 million followers—said her clothing brand had not reached the manufacturer’s minimum for production. Those figures describe her age and reported audience at the time, not her current age or follower count.

PerthNow reported that Arii apologized to people who had ordered, saying their purchases could not be sent because the production threshold had not been reached. The report does not say that nobody bought anything. It says some people had placed orders, but the required total was higher.

Why did people say the minimum was 36?

PerthNow quoted Arii’s initial post as saying that she needed to sell at least 36 pieces for the manufacturer to make the products. She later clarified, according to the same report, that the manufacturer required 36 orders for each product. Across seven products, that amounted to 252 orders.

The distinction matters: 36 was not the reported minimum for the entire collection. The 252 figure is Arii’s reported explanation of this launch’s requirement, not an industry-wide manufacturing standard.

What did Arii say, and what is known about the reaction?

PerthNow quoted Arii from a post it said she later deleted: “No one has kept their word.” The same report quoted her later thanking people who had offered encouragement and advice. Because the original posts were described as deleted, these are quotations preserved in contemporaneous reporting, not independently available original posts.

Fox News published an account on May 29, 2019, and PerthNow followed on June 1. Both reported public speculation about why the launch fell short. Commenters suggested possibilities including promotion, product appeal, and whether followers would become customers. Those were reactions, not verified explanations.

What the reports do not establish

The contemporaneous accounts do not establish an exact order count, why demand fell short, or what happened to the label afterward. They also do not provide verified product details, prices, the manufacturer’s identity, or a refund total. No manufacturer statement or order records are presented in the cited coverage, so the reporting cannot independently resolve those questions.

It is also not possible to calculate a meaningful conversion rate from the reported 2.6 million followers. That figure was a historical audience count, not a count of people who saw the offer or expressed purchase intent, and the exact number of orders is not established.

What the episode shows about audience size and sales

A large social following and enough completed orders to meet a production minimum are different measures. Followers may not see a particular offer, and stated interest is not the same as a completed order. In Arii’s case, the reporting establishes that the threshold was missed despite some orders; it does not establish why.
