Much of Wondery’s studio and Wondery+ operation moved to Audible, while advertising, sponsorship and some creator-related work shifted toward Amazon Music and a creator-services group. Audible’s 2026 materials show many former Wondery+ titles under Audible, while also saying Wondery continues to release selected podcasts independently.
For listeners, the practical change is a transition away from Wondery+ toward Audible for many premium shows—not a guarantee that every Wondery podcast moved or that every former subscriber gets automatic replacement access.

What Amazon changed in the 2025 reorganization
The August 2025 account described an internal restructuring, not a public announcement that Amazon was closing Wondery. Reporting based on an internal memo said the Wondery studio and Wondery+ operation would move to Audible, while advertising and sponsorship functions would align with Amazon Music and a new creator-services operation. Amazon disputed the simple “Wondery is shutting down” interpretation. Thurrott’s August 2025 report summarized the reported changes and their internal-memo basis.

The same reporting said approximately 110 jobs were affected and Wondery CEO Jen Sargent was leaving. Treat that as a reported figure tied to the reorganization, not a confirmed count of every Wondery employee or a definitive account of the final staffing structure.

Three different parts of Wondery moved in different directions
- Studio and premium programming: Much of the studio operation and Wondery+ offering moved into Audible.
- Advertising and sponsorship: These functions were reported to be aligned with Amazon Music and creator services.
- Wondery as a label: The name remains in use for selected programming, even though the old standalone operating structure was substantially reorganized.
Is Wondery shutting down?
Not in the absolute sense. “Wondery” can mean the former standalone business, its production operation, or the brand listeners see on shows. The operating structure changed substantially; much of the studio work moved to Audible; but the brand still appears on selected programming. Audible’s Wondery page says Wondery continues to release podcasts independently of Audible, naming shows such as New Heights, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, Armchair Expert and How I Built This.
What happened to Wondery+ and its shows?
Audible is the principal destination for many former Wondery+ premium titles. Audible describes those programs as Audible Originals and says many ongoing series continue to release weekly episodes. It also says Wondery+ will end “in the coming months” on the Wondery app, Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The page does not provide a firm end date, so subscribers should check current account and platform notices rather than assume a particular cancellation day.

What Wondery+ subscribers should check before switching
- Find the show’s current listing. Search for the specific title in Audible and check its current availability and episode access. Do not infer a show’s status from another Wondery program.
- Check which Audible plan includes it. Confirm whether the benefit you want—such as ad-free listening, early episodes or exclusive content—is included in the plan offered in your country.
- Review how Wondery+ is billed. Check whether payment runs through Wondery directly, Apple, Spotify or another provider, and review that provider’s subscription settings for cancellation and billing dates.
- Compare access before paying twice. Confirm whether your existing subscription remains active and whether a replacement plan actually covers the title before starting another paid membership.
- Keep any account details or listening history you value. The available announcements do not establish that accounts, saved episodes or billing will automatically transfer for every subscriber.

|---|---|---|---|

Audible’s announcement says eligible Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada can listen to one Audible audiobook per month; customers seeking more Audible access can subscribe separately or buy titles individually. Amazon’s announcement distinguishes that benefit from a full Audible membership.
For a dated U.S. price reference, Audible’s help page listed Standard at $8.99 per month, Premium with one credit at $14.95 monthly, Premium with two credits at $22.95 monthly, and annual Premium options of $149.50 for 12 credits or $229.50 for 24. It listed Audible Plus at $7.95 monthly but said that plan was available only to existing Plus members as of March 3, 2026. These are U.S. figures from the help page, not universal prices; geography, billing channel and promotions can change the amount. Audible’s plan and pricing help page has the relevant qualifications.

Why Amazon reorganized Wondery
Amazon’s reported rationale focused on changes in podcasting, including the growing role of video and the difficulty of defining a podcast creator when creators publish across formats. The internal-memo account connected the shift to a broader creator-services approach. It is reasonable to read the structure as an effort to consolidate premium narrative audio in Audible while handling distribution, advertising and creator relationships through larger Amazon audio operations. The available reporting does not establish Wondery’s individual profitability, a specific return-on-investment calculation, or that video alone caused the staffing changes.

The shift follows Amazon’s acquisition of Wondery, announced in December 2020. The acquisition price was not officially disclosed; contemporary coverage cited an estimate of about $300 million. That figure should be treated as a reported estimate, not Amazon’s confirmed purchase price. The 2025 reorganization suggests a change in where Amazon places podcast production and monetization, rather than proof that it is abandoning spoken-word content.
What the change means for creators, advertisers and employees
For creators and producers, the new arrangement could place narrative series inside Audible while personality-led shows receive support through creator services. Centralized advertising and sponsorship work may connect shows to Amazon Music’s commercial infrastructure. Those are structural possibilities, not guarantees about any individual show: public reporting does not establish which contracts were renewed, which creators were retained, or the terms offered through creator services.
For advertisers, the reported alignment points to a more integrated sales and sponsorship operation rather than a fully separate Wondery commercial unit. For employees, the reported impact of about 110 jobs and Sargent’s departure mark a significant reduction and management change, but public information does not provide a complete post-reorganization organization chart.

Quick Recap
What remains unsettled
- Audible’s Wondery page says Wondery+ will end “in the coming months” but does not state a final shutdown date.
- The public information does not map every show to an enduring home or say which titles will remain independent, become Audible-first or change distribution.
- Subscription migration, refunds and account-history transfers are not established as automatic across direct, Apple, Spotify and other billing arrangements.
- The reported rationale includes video’s growing importance, but it does not confirm the scope or timing of any future Amazon video-podcast strategy.
