Drop’s knives largely disappeared from Drop.com because the company sunset its Everyday Carry (EDC) and Outdoors communities there in March 2021, shifting its focus to audiophile gear and mechanical keyboards. Drop said its EDC and Outdoors products would move to Amazon, but that announcement does not establish whether any particular knife is currently available. The Drop Gent also had a separate, model-specific ending: its maker says the collaboration with Drop ran its course, then brought the design back as the Gent 2.0.
Why did Drop’s knife category disappear?
In March 2021, Drop announced that it was narrowing its focus to the Audiophile and Mechanical Keyboard communities and would sunset the EDC and Outdoors communities on Drop.com on March 23. Drop said its Drop Studio EDC and Outdoors products would transition to Amazon. The statement was reproduced in a BladeForums thread dated March 16, 2021; it explained a change in sales channel and site focus, not a blanket decision that every knife had been permanently discontinued. That distinction matters for shoppers: a category leaving Drop.com is not proof that every item moved to Amazon, remained in stock, or continued to be manufactured. The announcement does not verify current availability for any specific knife.
What happened to the Drop Gent?
The Gent’s history is more specific than the site-wide EDC shift. Ferrum Forge Knife Works says its collaboration with Drop began in 2016 and that Drop discontinued the Gent when the collaboration ran its course. Ferrum Forge later brought it back as the Gent 2.0. Ferrum Forge describes the original Gent as the most popular, best-selling knife Drop ever sold, but does not publish a sales figure. That description should not be treated as a quantified sales ranking.
Were other Drop knives affected?
Drop’s 2019 announcement named the Drop + Terzuola Cyrus Persian Folding Knife as a collaboration and described its upswept Persian-style blade and S35VN stainless steel. For any other model, the 2021 category sunset explains why it might no longer appear as a Drop.com EDC listing, but the announcement alone cannot establish whether that individual knife was discontinued, moved to another retailer, or simply went out of stock.
Did CORSAIR’s acquisition cause the change?
No. CORSAIR announced an agreement to acquire certain Drop assets in July 2023, after the EDC and Outdoors communities had already been sunset on Drop.com. The announcement emphasized Drop’s peripherals business and said Drop would remain a separate brand within CORSAIR; it is not the documented reason for the 2021 knife-category change. How to assess an original Drop knife versus a successor
If you are comparing a discontinued Drop-era model with a later version such as the Gent 2.0, first establish which product and production run a listing actually describes. Then check current maker or seller information for availability, materials and specifications, price, and warranty. The documented successor relationship does not by itself confirm current stock, pricing, or that the later model shares every specification with the original.
