The company is still operating as childcare and early-education software, with tools for attendance, billing, family updates, and learning.
Brightwheel’s Shark Tank appearance and deal
Founder Dave Vasen pitched Brightwheel on the April 29, 2016 episode of ABC’s Shark Tank. At the time, the service was designed for daycare centers, preschools, and after-school programs. Teachers could record attendance and observations and share photos and notes; administrators could manage classrooms and send tuition invoices; families could follow a child’s day. Brightwheel’s announcement of its appearance outlined those uses.
On May 2, 2016, Brightwheel announced it had raised a combined $600,000 from Mark Cuban and Chris Sacca through the show. The company said the investors first pursued the opportunity separately and ultimately participated together. Its announcement does not specify the equity percentage or how much each investor contributed. Brightwheel’s announcement of the investment is the primary source for the combined amount.
A 2026 SlashGear article reports a more detailed breakdown: $300,000 from each investor for a combined 6.67% stake. That is secondary reporting; Brightwheel’s own announcement confirms the $600,000 total but not those terms. SlashGear’s report attributes the breakdown to the deal.
