The first caller reportedly told emergency services the fire began in a pot plant; later, police said they believed it had been deliberately lit. Neither account establishes a final cause, and the sources do not report a final investigation outcome.
When and where did the fire happen?
Firefighters were called to Bar Therapy on Mandurah Terrace just before 5:30 a.m. on April 23, 2024. A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire was controlled within 20 minutes and extinguished at about 6 a.m., according to PerthNow / Mandurah Times.
Did a pot plant start the fire?
That was the first caller’s reported account to emergency services, not a confirmed finding about where or how the fire began. The initial report said later calls described the fire spreading to the roof. Police said arson squad investigators would examine the scene and try to identify the cause.
Why did police believe the fire was deliberate?
In a public appeal reported on May 31, 2024, police said investigators believed the fire had been deliberately lit and sought information about people seen near the scene. That was an investigative position reported at the time—not a final determination of the cause or proof that any identified person was responsible. Coast FM’s report described a person police wanted to speak with, while PerthNow / Mandurah Times reported the appeal and investigation.

How much damage did the fire cause?
Initial reporting described visible damage concentrated on one half of the building. Bar Therapy co-owner Marie TeAu later said the fire destroyed basically the whole bar area and half the roof, with smoke and water damage as well. The May 31 police-appeal coverage put estimated structural damage at $350,000; that is a reported estimate, not a complete accounting of the venue’s losses.
What did the owners say about rebuilding?
On May 1, 2024, TeAu said the owners intended to rebuild but did not yet know how long reopening would take because the damage was still being assessed. She said: “We’re still a bit shell-shocked, but at the end of the day we will rebuild.” The report said 11 staff members were out of work and some had been accommodated at nearby Little Stiller Distillery. These were updates from May 2024, not confirmation of Bar Therapy’s present operating or rebuilding status. PerthNow / Mandurah Times reported the owners’ response.

What is known about the building?
May 2024 reporting described the venue as a heritage-listed building dating to 1928, first known as Tuckey House. It stood on part of the site of the Tuckey family-owned Peel Inlet Preserving Works. The available reports provide that historical context but do not include a heritage-register entry with further building details.

The May 2024 report records an intention to rebuild and uncertainty about the timetable; it does not establish whether the venue later reopened. Little Stiller Distillery’s website lists its address as 7 Mandurah Terrace and its licensee as Bar Therapy Pty Ltd, but that information alone does not confirm Bar Therapy’s current operating status: Little Stiller Distillery.
