Gate.io’s Lead Asia Charity Carnival was held in Seoul on September 5, 2024, as a side event of Korea Blockchain Week. The event listing named Seung-il Hope Foundation as the intended recipient of funds raised. Reports also described a surprise appearance by a SHIB co-founder, but do not establish the person’s identity or independently verify the claim that it was the co-founder’s first public appearance in Korea.
What was the Lead Asia Charity Carnival?
It was a Gate.io-organized charity and networking event presented alongside Korea Blockchain Week 2024. The Luma event listing names Gate.io and its co-hosts and describes an evening program combining networking, entertainment and fundraising. The listing is the source for the schedule and venue details, rather than an independently audited record of attendance or activities: Luma event listing.
When and where was it held?
The listing scheduled the carnival for September 5, 2024, from 18:00 to 22:00 at Crest 72 Glass Hall, 72 Jangchungdan-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul. It offered free entry to the first 200 attendees who registered.
What was on the program?
The event listing described an opening icebreaker with drinks, retro games, beer pong, networking and DJ Jay Soul, followed by co-host remarks and awards. Dinner and DJ performances by IZREAL and HANJI were also listed. A mystery guest was scheduled for 20:30–21:00.
The listing also described an optional Airian Runner X app activity: attendees could walk 2,000, 5,000 or 10,000 steps and show their count to receive a small gift. This was an activity attached to that past event, not evidence of an ongoing offer.
Who was the charity beneficiary?
The Luma listing named Seung-il Hope Foundation as the intended recipient of funds raised. It described the foundation as co-led by former coach Park Seung-il and singer Sean. The Shib Magazine says the foundation supports people affected by ALS in South Korea; that description and the event listing identify the charity context, but do not establish how much money was raised or independently confirm a transfer.

The Shib Daily reported that Gate.io thanked AiRian, Shiba Inu, MemeCore and East Asian media for supporting the event. It reproduced this sentence from a Gate.io social post: “Funds raised for SEUNGIL HOPE Foundation—Web3 charity just got a major boost!” That is Gate.io’s statement as reproduced by The Shib Daily, not an independently measured fundraising result. The Shib Magazine also reported that SHIB’s name would appear on the donor wall of a future ALS hospital. This is a project-publication claim; the available coverage does not establish that the hospital was completed, the current fundraising status, or the value of any donation: The Shib Magazine’s September 18, 2024 article.

Did a SHIB co-founder make a first public appearance in Korea?
Gate.io’s event report, carried by TechBullion, and a separate Metaverse Post report said a SHIB co-founder appeared as a surprise guest and framed the appearance as the person’s first public appearance in Korea. The reports reviewed do not name the co-founder or independently verify the “first” claim. It is therefore best understood as a claim made in event coverage, not an independently confirmed identification or milestone. Event materials and reports describe fundraising for Seung-il Hope Foundation, but the sources cited here do not provide a verified donation amount. The Shib Daily says Gate.io reported that funds were raised; that report does not quantify them. The event’s charitable purpose is clear from the listing, while the final sum and independently confirmed transfer are not established by these accounts.
