The abrupt exit became a meme as criticism of the token’s launch spread. Investors later sued over alleged unlawful, unregistered securities sales; those claims are allegations, not proof that Welch committed fraud.
What did Haliey Welch say, and when?
On December 5, 2024, Welch left an X Spaces conversation in which participants were discussing $HAWK. A commonly published transcription of her sign-off is: “I hate to interrupt you Nick, but anywho, I’m going to go to bed and I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” Transcripts differ slightly in wording and punctuation; the quotation is attributed to Welch in The Daily Dot’s coverage and Futurism’s report.
Why did the clip become a meme?
Welch’s departure came while the conversation concerned the token and criticism of its launch. The brief, abrupt sign-off was clipped and circulated online, where it became part of the $HAWK story. Know Your Meme and The Daily Dot covered the clip’s circulation. The line itself does not establish what Welch knew about the token or whether anyone acted improperly.
What did Welch say later?
On December 20, 2024, Welch said she was taking the situation seriously and cooperating with the legal team representing people affected. Her public statement said she wanted to help uncover the truth, hold responsible parties accountable, and resolve the matter. That was Welch’s stated response, not a court’s finding about what happened. Yahoo Entertainment reported her statement.

What did investors allege about $HAWK?
December 2024 coverage described a lawsuit by investors who alleged unlawful, unregistered securities sales involving parties connected with $HAWK. Yahoo Entertainment reported that the investors bringing the suit had combined losses of $151,000. That figure describes those plaintiffs as reported in the article; it is not a comprehensive estimate of losses for all token holders.
A complaint sets out allegations. The reports cited here do not establish a final judgment that fraud occurred or that Welch personally defrauded investors. They also do not establish the lawsuit’s later status or whether a regulator made a final finding. The clip, Welch’s later statement, and the investors’ claims are separate pieces of the story.

Was $HAWK proven to be a scam?
The cited reporting documents investor allegations and the public controversy, but it does not establish a final legal finding that $HAWK was a scam or that Welch committed fraud. To describe the outcome definitively would require later court records or an official regulatory finding; the available reports do not resolve those questions.
