Forbes reported on April 7, 2025, that the value of Donald Trump’s stake in Trump Media & Technology Group fell by $260 million amid tariff-related market turmoil. That figure describes a reported change in the marked-to-market value of his holdings—not $260 million in cash lost by the company or money Trump necessarily received or paid.
What the $260 million figure means
The Forbes-hosted video page carried the matching headline and connected the reported decline to tariff policies and their economic consequences. It does not provide the calculation behind the figure. The amount should therefore be understood as Forbes’s reported estimate, not as a calculation independently confirmed by the available information.

A shareholder’s stake value is generally estimated by multiplying the shares attributed to that holder by the share price at a particular time. If a public company’s share price falls, the estimated market value of a large shareholder’s holdings can fall too, even if the shareholder sells no shares. That change is often described as a paper or marked-to-market loss; it is distinct from realized proceeds, which depend on selling shares.
What is—and is not—established about the calculation
The Forbes video page does not state the comparison dates, the share count attributed to Trump, or the DJT prices used at either endpoint. Without those inputs, the $260 million estimate cannot be reproduced from the material available here.

The page associates the reported decline with tariff-related market disruption, but its summary does not identify a particular tariff announcement as the cause or establish that tariffs alone produced the change. A share-price movement and a shareholder’s resulting estimated stake value are not, by themselves, proof of a single cause.

Trump Media & Technology Group is the company that operates Truth Social. A change in the estimated value of Trump’s shares is not the same measure as the company’s revenue, net income, or cash on hand.
For context only, Trump Media reported $1.7 million in revenue and a $238.1 million net loss for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Those later company-reported results do not establish the value of Trump’s stake in April 2025 or verify the Forbes figure.
