Don Goodman’s comments about Reading FC focused on the strain that prolonged ownership uncertainty was putting on the club and its supporters. The available interview does not establish that he was reacting to a new takeover announcement in October 2026. BBC reporting in 2025 said a takeover involving Rob Couhig was expected to be finalised after legal technicalities, but that report does not confirm the club’s ownership status today.
What Don Goodman said about Reading’s ownership problems
In an interview with OLBG, Goodman said Reading needed an owner and expressed sympathy for supporters dealing with the club’s continuing problems. He hoped that, once a takeover was complete, fans would be able to enjoy the football again.
Goodman also referred to difficulties Reading had faced, including charges, points deductions, concerns about non-payment and transfer restrictions. Those remarks belong to the context of that interview; its publication date is not established here. The interview does not show that Goodman was responding to a newly announced October 2026 deal.
What is known about the takeover timeline
2023: a possible sale and concerns about the club
In 2023, the BBC reported that Reading owner Dai Yongge was open to a potential sale. The report also said manager Ruben Selles had been told that wages would not be a concern that month.

In July 2023, former Reading chairman Sir John Madejski described the situation by saying: “I think Mr Dai is keeping a lot of balls up in the air and that is a worry.” That was Madejski’s comment, not Goodman’s. The BBC identified Madejski as the club’s chairman from 1990 to 2012.
2025: a takeover was expected to clear legal steps
In April 2025, The Guardian described Reading as still under Dai Yongge’s ownership amid financial and operational difficulties and an extended sale process. BBC reporting in 2025 said the formal finalisation of a takeover involving Rob Couhig was expected to follow legal technicalities. An expectation reported at that time is not confirmation that the transaction was completed, nor evidence of who owns the club now.

October 2026: a recent archive is not confirmation of a deal
A fan-run Reading news archive lists coverage through 2 October 2026, but its index does not substantiate a fresh takeover announcement. It is not enough to establish that a new deal has been announced or completed.

- Goodman’s interview supports the view that he regarded Reading’s ownership uncertainty as damaging to the club and its supporters, and hoped a completed sale would allow fans to focus on football.
- The documented 2025 reporting described a takeover involving Rob Couhig as expected to clear legal technicalities; it does not establish the outcome or current ownership in October 2026.
- Madejski’s 2023 “that is a worry” remark is a separate historical comment and should not be presented as Goodman’s reaction.
So the sourced account is of Goodman commenting on Reading’s prolonged ownership problems, not a verified reaction to fresh October 2026 takeover news. Without an authoritative announcement or a dated, direct interview tying him to a newer development, the status of any current deal remains unconfirmed here.
