Its direct buyers are typically equipment makers—original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), original design manufacturers (ODMs), and distributors—which build Marvell chips into products for cloud providers, businesses, telecom carriers, governments, and consumers. Data centers accounted for 74% of Marvell’s fiscal 2026 revenue, making that market the company’s largest business.
What Marvell Technology makes
Marvell is a fabless semiconductor company: it designs chips and related technologies and sells them to companies that incorporate them into larger systems. Its portfolio spans compute, networking, security, high-speed interconnect, memory, and storage. Some products are standard components; others are custom-designed or co-designed for a particular customer’s requirements.

That distinction matters. A Marvell chip may be an important part of a server, switch, or storage system, but Marvell is not usually the company selling that complete system to the organization that operates it. Its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K describes the business as supplying data-infrastructure semiconductor solutions “spanning the data center core to network edge.” In other words, the products can help move, process, secure, and store data in both large data centers and equipment closer to users or industrial systems.

Custom silicon and data-center compute
Marvell designs application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs)—chips tailored to a customer’s intended workload or system. The applications described in its fiscal 2026 filing include AI, data-center computing, networking, storage, carrier infrastructure, aerospace, and defense. Its custom-silicon portfolio includes co-designed AI accelerators, memory-related products, scale-up fabrics, security components, and co-processors.

These are infrastructure components, not generally consumer products that a buyer selects and installs as a standalone device. A custom chip is developed around the customer’s specifications and system design. That co-design approach can align a chip with an individual customer’s workload and infrastructure strategy; it is different from buying a standard component off the shelf, though Marvell sells both custom and standard or optimized products.
The company also announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to provide custom XPUs and NVLink Fusion-compatible scale-up networking for customers building semi-custom AI infrastructure in NVIDIA’s ecosystem. The announcement is a specific partnership and product collaboration, not a complete list of Marvell customers or evidence that every NVIDIA system uses Marvell components.
Optical and electrical interconnect
Data centers and communications networks need to move large amounts of information between processors, servers, storage, and network equipment. Marvell sells components that help transmit, receive, and manage those signals. Its fiscal 2026 filing lists pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) and coherent and coherent-lite digital signal processors (DSPs), laser drivers, trans-impedance amplifiers, silicon photonics, co-packaged and linear pluggable optics chipsets, data-center interconnect products, active electrical cable DSPs, and PCIe retimers.
Recommended Free Tools
These products serve different links and system designs. Optical components help carry data over fiber; electrical interconnect products support connections within equipment and systems. PCIe retimers, for example, are part of the signal path in systems using PCI Express. Marvell’s portfolio also covers links between data centers and across carrier networks. The role of these parts is to enable connections within a larger system, not to function as a finished networking product on their own.
Networking and edge processing
Marvell’s networking portfolio includes Ethernet controllers and adapters, physical transceivers, switches, physical-layer devices (PHYs), and processors. Its products are used in server and data-center networking, enterprise equipment, carrier infrastructure, and intelligent-edge systems. The portfolio includes access, aggregation, and industrial switching, high-speed PHYs, Ethernet controllers, and connectivity for edge computing and security.
Its OCTEON data processing units and multicore infrastructure processors handle functions such as network, security, storage, and application processing. Such processing can be integrated into equipment including routers, firewalls, load balancers, and other network systems. Marvell has also described development work on UALink and Ethernet for Scale-Up Networking (ESUN) switches, technologies aimed at connecting systems in data-center environments.

Memory and storage
Marvell supplies components that connect, manage, or optimize storage and memory systems. These include Bravera solid-state-drive (SSD) controllers, hard-disk-drive (HDD) controllers and preamplifiers, Fibre Channel adapters and controllers, storage accelerators, and products for Compute Express Link (CXL)-based memory expansion and pooling. These are parts of storage arrays, servers, and related infrastructure rather than complete storage products sold directly to most end users.
The product categories address different jobs: SSD and HDD controllers manage data on their respective types of drives, while Fibre Channel products support connections in storage networks. CXL-based products are intended to expand or pool memory resources in systems. This variety helps explain why Marvell should not be reduced to a single category such as AI accelerators: storage and memory products are also part of the infrastructure portfolio.
Recent portfolio additions and a former business
Marvell completed its acquisition of Celestial AI on February 2, 2026. Celestial AI’s Photonic Fabric technology is aimed at next-generation scale-up interconnect. Marvell completed its acquisition of XConn on February 10, 2026; XConn provides PCIe and CXL switching silicon. These acquisitions broadened the company’s interconnect portfolio, adding technologies associated with photonic links and PCIe/CXL switching.
One former portfolio area should not be mistaken for a current Marvell-owned product line: Marvell sold its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon on August 14, 2025. The fiscal 2026 filing identifies automotive Ethernet applications such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, and in-vehicle networking as divested. This does not mean every automotive or industrial application has disappeared from Marvell’s broader portfolio; the specific business sold was automotive Ethernet.
Who buys Marvell chips?
Marvell identifies OEMs and ODMs that design and manufacture end-market devices, along with distributors, as target customers. The direct buyer is therefore often an equipment or system maker rather than the eventual operator or user. An OEM may sell a finished server, switch, router, storage system, or other device under its own brand; an ODM may design and manufacture equipment for another company’s product line. Distributors are another route through which products reach equipment makers.
The eventual user can be a cloud operator, enterprise, telecom carrier, government organization, or consumer. A company whose branded device contains a Marvell component is not automatically a direct Marvell customer. Component use, direct purchasing relationships, and public customer disclosures are different things, and the company’s filings do not provide a comprehensive current list of its largest direct customers.

For custom silicon in particular, the direct relationship can involve designing to a specific customer’s requirements. Marvell says it aligns sales along key customer lines to provide integrated platforms, but that does not make every downstream device brand a direct chip buyer. Its public materials identify customer types and selected partnerships rather than a full, current customer roster.
Examples of products that incorporate Marvell chips
- Cloud and on-premises data centers: AI systems, servers, Ethernet switches, network-attached storage, storage systems, and data-center interconnect equipment.
- Enterprise networks and computing: routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, load balancers, and workstations.
- Carrier networks: broadband-access equipment, optical-transport systems, routers, and wireless radio access network (RAN) systems.
- Consumer and home devices: broadband gateways, gaming consoles, home storage, PCs, printers, and set-top boxes.
These examples describe applications in which the company says its products are used; they do not identify every manufacturer or establish that every product in a category contains a Marvell chip. A chip may sit several commercial steps upstream from the person or organization that eventually uses the finished equipment.
How much of Marvell’s business is data center?
Marvell’s fiscal year 2026 ended January 31, 2026. For that full fiscal year, the company reported $8,194.6 million in net revenue, up from $5,767.3 million in fiscal 2025. Its reported end-market breakdown was:
| Fiscal 2026 end market | Revenue | Share of total |
|---|---|---|
| Data center | $6,100.3 million | 74% |
| Communications and other | $2,094.3 million | 26% |
| Total | $8,194.6 million | 100% |
The figures are annual fiscal 2026 amounts, not calendar-year results or a forecast. Marvell says data-center revenue growth in that fiscal year was driven by AI-related demand for custom products and electro-optics. The company’s results therefore reflect more than one product type: custom silicon and optical/electrical connectivity both contribute to infrastructure demand.
Marvell’s end-market classifications use factors such as customer type, product function, and its knowledge of the application. The company says assigning revenue to end markets is inherently subjective and classifications can change, so the 74% figure should be read as its reported fiscal-year allocation rather than a precise measure of sales to a single type of buyer.
The next reported period in the available company filings was the second quarter of fiscal 2027, ended August 1, 2026. Marvell reported $2.7 billion in quarterly revenue, up 37% year over year, and data-center sales growth of 46% year over year. It attributed data-center demand to a broad range of products, including electro-optics, custom silicon, storage, and switching. These are quarterly figures, not a full-year total, and should not be combined with fiscal 2026 totals as if they covered the same period.

What Marvell’s business model means for investors and buyers
For a prospective investor, Marvell is best understood as a supplier of the components that enable data infrastructure, not as a manufacturer of branded end-user systems. Its revenue reflects sales of semiconductor products to customers in several markets, with data center the largest end market in fiscal 2026. That concentration helps explain why AI-related infrastructure demand is relevant to the company, but it does not mean all of Marvell’s sales are AI chips: the company also sells networking, interconnect, memory, and storage products, and reports a communications-and-other category.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor someone trying to identify who “buys its chips,” separate three levels: Marvell sells components to direct customers such as OEMs, ODMs, and distributors; those customers incorporate components into equipment; and cloud firms, carriers, enterprises, government bodies, or consumers operate or use the finished products. Public filings identify customer categories and certain partnerships, but do not establish a complete current roster of direct buyers.
When comparing Marvell with another semiconductor supplier, useful distinctions include whether its products are custom-designed or standard merchant components; its exposure to data centers versus communications, enterprise, carrier, and consumer markets; its emphasis on compute, switching, storage, or optical/electrical interconnect; and whether it sells chips to system makers or finished devices to end users. Marvell sells both standard and optimized products, with customized solutions designed for customer requirements. Those axes are more informative than assuming two chip companies serve the same market simply because both make semiconductors.
There is no particularly representative consumer retail product to recommend as a stand-in for Marvell’s business. The ASICs, interconnect chips, Ethernet components, and storage controllers discussed here are primarily business-to-business components designed into larger systems. A retail router or cable may be available to consumers, but it would not meaningfully show what the company makes or who its customers are.
