What Does Intercontinental Exchange Own? A Guide to ICE’s Businesses

ICE owns more than the NYSE: its portfolio includes global exchanges, clearinghouses, fixed-income and data services, mortgage technology and ICE NGX. MarketAxess was announced as a pending acquisition in July 2026.

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE; NYSE: ICE) owns and operates a portfolio of financial-market infrastructure and technology businesses—not just the New York Stock Exchange. Its principal areas are exchanges and clearing, fixed-income and data services, and mortgage technology. ICE’s portfolio also includes ICE NGX, a Canadian energy-market business. A proposed MarketAxess acquisition announced in July 2026 was still pending in that announcement, so MarketAxess should not be described as an owned ICE business on that basis.

What does Intercontinental Exchange own?

ICE is a publicly traded company whose businesses serve financial institutions, traders, issuers, clearing members, data users and other market participants. Its principal operations fall into three groups: exchanges and clearing, fixed-income and data services, and mortgage technology. ICE’s company overview describes this portfolio at About ICE.

The distinction between those businesses matters. An exchange provides a venue for trading or listings; a clearinghouse manages obligations and counterparty risk after trades; data and technology services supply information and workflows. ICE’s mortgage business provides software and technology for housing finance, rather than making mortgage loans itself.

Does ICE own the New York Stock Exchange?

Yes. NYSE is part of ICE’s exchange portfolio and is its best-known cash-equities and listings business. But ICE is not simply a stock exchange: it also operates markets in derivatives and other asset classes, clearinghouses, data services and mortgage technology. ICE’s Exchanges & Clearing page lists its markets and clearing businesses.

What exchanges and markets are part of ICE?

ICE’s named markets span energy, agriculture, equities, foreign exchange, metals, interest rates and credit. Its portfolio includes futures exchanges, electronic trading venues and over-the-counter markets. ICE reports more than 12,000 traded products across its global markets; that is ICE’s company-reported current figure, not an independently reconciled product count. See Our Customers.

Business or market What it covers
NYSE Cash equities and listings; part of ICE’s exchange portfolio.
ICE Futures Europe Futures markets operated by ICE in Europe.
ICE Futures U.S. Futures markets operated by ICE in the United States.
ICE Futures Singapore Futures markets operated by ICE in Singapore.
ICE Futures Abu Dhabi Futures markets operated by ICE in Abu Dhabi.
ICE Endex ICE market included in its named exchange portfolio.
Creditex and ICE Swap Trade Credit and swaps-related markets and trading services named by ICE.
ICE OTC Energy Over-the-counter energy markets.
ICE NGX North American natural gas, electricity and environmental markets, with trading, clearing and data services.

The list identifies key operating businesses, not every ICE legal entity or subsidiary. For the current market list, consult ICE’s Exchanges & Clearing page.

What do ICE’s clearinghouses do?

ICE describes six clearinghouses serving the U.S., U.K., Europe, Canada and Singapore. They are separate infrastructure businesses from the trading venues: a clearinghouse supports the trades by managing counterparty obligations and associated risk, rather than acting as the exchange where participants agree to trade.

ICE clearinghouse Role in ICE’s portfolio
ICE Clear Credit Clearinghouse in ICE’s named clearing portfolio.
ICE Clear Europe Clearinghouse in ICE’s named clearing portfolio.
ICE Clear Netherlands Clearinghouse in ICE’s named clearing portfolio.
ICE NGX Canadian energy-market business that includes central counterparty clearing.
ICE Clear Singapore Clearinghouse in ICE’s named clearing portfolio.
ICE Clear U.S. Clearinghouse in ICE’s named clearing portfolio.

ICE’s current page describes these as six clearinghouses; the count reflects the page’s stated portfolio and may change. Details are on ICE’s Exchanges & Clearing page.

What are ICE’s fixed-income, data and technology businesses?

ICE’s Fixed Income & Data Services business sells professional and enterprise services, rather than a consumer market-data app. ICE describes offerings that include data and analytics, fixed-income execution, index solutions, regulatory compliance, climate-risk data, desktop and web platforms, APIs, connectivity and consolidated feeds.

Its exchange-data services distribute information from ICE and NYSE exchanges and clearinghouses, including real-time and historical data, daily indices and forward-pricing curves. ICE also describes feeds that aggregate hundreds of sources. Product details appear on the Fixed Income & Data Services and Exchange & Market Data pages.

What does ICE Mortgage Technology do?

ICE Mortgage Technology provides technology for the U.S. housing-finance lifecycle. ICE describes the workflow as extending from initial consumer engagement through loan production, closing, registration and long-term servicing. It is a technology and workflow business serving mortgage participants; ICE is not itself a mortgage lender. See the company overview and its acquisition announcement for ICE’s description of the business: About ICE and ICE’s July 30, 2026 announcement.

What is ICE NGX?

ICE NGX is ICE’s Calgary-headquartered North American energy-market business. It provides electronic trading, central counterparty clearing and data services for natural gas, electricity and environmental markets. ICE says it acquired NGX in 2017, and its current company page reports more than 300 direct participants.

ICE NGX reports that in 2025 it cleared an average monthly energy equivalent of approximately 1,200 petajoules and nearly $53 billion in annual cleared-energy notional value. These figures describe ICE NGX’s 2025 operations, not ICE’s portfolio as a whole. See ICE NGX.

Does ICE own MarketAxess?

Not on the basis of ICE’s July 30, 2026 announcement. ICE said it had entered a definitive agreement to acquire MarketAxess Holdings Inc., an electronic fixed-income trading platform, and expected the deal to close in the first half of 2027, subject to MarketAxess shareholder approval, regulatory clearances and customary closing conditions. An agreement and board approval do not mean the acquisition has closed; the status could change after that announcement.

The announced consideration was $167 per share in cash. The release also described MarketAxess as connecting approximately 2,100 institutional investors and broker-dealers across more than 90 countries. Those figures refer to MarketAxess as described in the announcement, not to ICE’s existing owned portfolio. Check the dated ICE announcement for the terms and a newer source for the transaction’s current status.

How to understand ICE’s portfolio

ICE combines businesses that play different roles in financial and housing markets. Its exchanges facilitate trading and listings; clearinghouses manage post-trade obligations and risk; data and fixed-income services provide information, analytics, execution and connectivity; and mortgage technology supports housing-finance workflows. The portfolio overview is not a complete legal register of every subsidiary, and ICE’s company pages describe its own businesses rather than independently assessing them.
