What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a treatment system, not simply a clear plastic tray sold directly to consumers. A dental professional plans a patient’s treatment, and a series of custom-made aligners is produced to implement that plan. Align describes the system as combining proprietary virtual modeling software, rapid manufacturing and mass customization, and patented aligner material. It identifies SmartTrack material, SmartStage movement sequencing, and SmartForce attachments and features as components of the system. Who provides treatment and sets the price?
Invisalign treatment is prescribed through Invisalign-trained orthodontists or general-practice dentists. Align says the treating doctor determines the patient’s price based on the treatment plan, so there is no single company-wide price that applies to every case. The relevant cost depends on the provider’s plan and quote.

What do Align’s treatment figures mean?
In its fiscal 2025 results, Align reported 2.6 million clear-aligner cases for the year ended December 31, 2025, and said the cumulative number of Invisalign patients exceeded 22 million during 2025. The case count is for that fiscal year; the patient milestone is cumulative, not a count of people treated in 2025 alone. These are company-reported figures, not independent clinical outcome measures. Align’s fiscal 2025 results provide the period and figures.
What is iTero, and how is it different from Invisalign?
iTero is Align’s professional intraoral scanner platform. It captures digital images of a patient’s mouth for dental workflows; it is not an aligner treatment. Invisalign addresses tooth movement, while iTero provides scanning and related software tools that can support consultation, treatment planning, and restorative work.

For clear-aligner case submissions, Align says it accepts physical impressions or intraoral scans. Digital submissions may use iTero scans or scans from certain third-party scanners covered by interoperability arrangements. In other words, a practice does not necessarily need an iTero scanner to submit every digital aligner case; accepted formats and interoperability depend on the scanner and arrangement. What iTero digital tools include
In an October 29, 2025 announcement, Align described iTero Digital Solutions as scanners paired with integrated software. It announced an Align Oral Health Suite for patient imagery and shareable oral-health reports, Invisalign Outcome Simulator Pro with Smile Video, and an expanded iTero Design Suite powered by exocad. Align described the Design Suite as supporting chairside design of models, bite splints, and prosthetics, with compatibility across a broader range of 3D printers and mills. What does exocad do?
exocad is Align’s CAD/CAM software business, extending its portfolio from scanning into digital dental design and fabrication workflows. It is a professional tool rather than a consumer product. The iTero Design Suite’s use of exocad links scan-based workflows with the design of items such as models, bite splints, and prosthetics. For practices or labs evaluating these tools, practical questions include supported workflows, compatibility with existing equipment, and the relevant reseller or service arrangement; the cited company materials do not provide a universal price or direct consumer purchase route.
How large is Align Technology?
Align’s fiscal 2025 results reported $4.0 billion in total revenue for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025: $3.2 billion from clear aligners and $789.6 million from systems and services. The company also reported 2.6 million clear-aligner cases for that year. Those categories describe the business at company-reported revenue level; they are not product prices or amounts paid by an individual patient.

Align’s same results reported more than 22 million cumulative Invisalign patients during 2025. The company also cited milestones of over 121,000 active iTero scanner units, over 70,000 exocad CAD/CAM licenses, and over 295,000 active Invisalign-trained doctors during 2025. These are company-reported scale figures, not independently audited measures of product quality. The fiscal 2025 release contains the company’s period-specific reporting. Align’s April 30, 2026 release previewed developments shown around the AAO Annual Session, including the Invisalign Specifix 3D-printed attachment system, integrated buttons, a palatal expander with hooks, custom trim lines in ClinCheck, and iTero Lumina scanning advances. Align separately says its palatal expander system received U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance, and that its mandibular-advancement clear-aligner system became commercially available in the U.S. and Canada in April 2025. Those are specific regulatory and market statements; they should not be generalized to availability in other countries. Current availability should be confirmed with a local provider or Align channel.
