A 1987 Buick GNX can sell for very different amounts depending on mileage, condition, originality, documentation, and sale history. The latest specifically verified result here is $427,000 for a 30-mile example sold on September 24, 2026. That extraordinary near-new car is not a typical price for a GNX with ordinary use: an 82,000-mile example sold for $101,987 in January 2025, while a 49,669-mile car sold for $107,000 in October 2025.
These are individual auction results, not a formal appraisal or a statistically representative market range. Treat each price as a dated transaction tied to a particular car—not a guaranteed value for another GNX.

What recent 1987 Buick GNX sales show
| Example | Reported sale price | Sale date and venue | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| GNX #450, 30 miles | $427,000 | September 24, 2026, Bring a Trailer | A near-new example achieved an exceptional result. It had previously sold on the same platform for $220,000 and $200,000 in July 2024, then returned through a dealer; that history cautions against treating the latest result as a predictable value. | 82,000-mile GNX | $101,987 | January 30, 2025, Bring a Trailer | A substantially higher-mileage example sold for far less than the 30-mile car. Bring a Trailer sale listing |
| GNX #244, 49,669 miles | $107,000 | October 16, 2025, Hagerty Marketplace | The seller described the car as largely original but also disclosed performance and reliability modifications. The listing also described original sales paperwork, a window sticker, service records, and a clean CARFAX report; these are seller-provided listing details, not a general guarantee about GNXs. The three results do not establish a mileage-based pricing formula. Mileage is one important point of comparison, but these examples differ in condition, originality, history, and sale context as well.

Why the GNX commands collector interest
Buick built 547 GNXs for the 1987 model year with help from Michigan-based ASC and McLaren Engines. General Motors describes the short run as a collaboration: “Sold briefly in 1987, the GNX had a limited run – Buick only built 547 of them, with the help of Michigan-based companies ASC Inc. and McLaren Engines.” General Motors’ history of the GNX, published February 17, 2025.

Hagerty’s 2025 valuation report describes the GNX as the ultimate Grand National. It reports a blueprinted turbocharged V6 rated at 276 horsepower, a 0–60 mph time of 5.5 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 13.43 seconds at 104 mph, and a GNX package price of $29,900. Those are historical figures reported by Hagerty, not current performance testing or a 2026 appraisal. Hagerty’s 2025 GNX valuation report.
What to check when estimating a GNX’s value
Mileage and preservation
The examples above range from 30 miles to 82,000 miles, with markedly different sale prices. That contrast shows why mileage matters, but a handful of transactions cannot tell you how much a particular number of miles adds or subtracts. Look at the car’s overall condition and evidence of careful preservation alongside the odometer.

Originality and modifications
Confirm what remains original and what has been changed. The seller of GNX #244 described it as largely original while also listing performance and reliability modifications. A buyer should distinguish a seller’s description from details supported by records, photographs, or inspection.
Paperwork and ownership history
Look for records that support the car’s identity and history, such as original sales documents, a window sticker, and service records. A clean vehicle-history report may be useful, but it does not replace a close inspection or establish that every aspect of a car’s history is complete.

Completed sales and timing
Compare completed transactions with stated mileage and sale dates, rather than relying on asking prices. Also consider a car’s prior sales: the 30-mile example’s repeated transactions show that one later result may reflect a specific sale context, not a stable value or a forecast of future returns.

If you are buying, selling, or evaluating a GNX, use these results as reference points rather than as an appraisal. Match the candidate car as closely as possible on mileage, condition, originality, documentation, and sale circumstances. For a consequential purchase or valuation, arrange an independent inspection and seek an appraisal that addresses the specific vehicle.
