Boeing’s next plane could be a new single-aisle aircraft intended eventually to replace the 737 MAX, according to reporting published in September 2025. But Boeing has not publicly confirmed a successor’s design in the sources available as of October 8, 2026. The only established shape clue is that it would be single-aisle; its appearance, specifications and schedule remain unknown.
What is known about Boeing’s possible next plane?
Reuters reported on September 30, 2025, relaying a Wall Street Journal report based on people familiar with the matter, that Boeing was in the early stages of developing a new single-aisle airplane intended eventually to replace the 737 MAX. That is reported development work, not a public Boeing program launch or a released aircraft specification. Reuters report republished by Investing.com.
Reuters separately reported that Boeing said it was focused on the company’s recovery amid reports of a potential new single-aisle jet. That response did not confirm a particular aircraft or design. Reuters report republished by Investing.com.
What might it look like—and what is still speculation?
“Single-aisle” is the only specific design category established by the cited reporting. It does not reveal the plane’s dimensions, passenger capacity, cabin arrangement, wing shape, engine choice, materials or range. No official rendering or confirmed configuration is established by these sources.

Any drawing or discussion that assigns the aircraft a particular profile, cabin or technology should therefore be treated as a concept or forecast—not as a depiction of Boeing’s selected design. The name “797” and designs associated with earlier New Midsize Airplane discussions are not confirmed names or designs for this reported successor.
How does a possible successor differ from current 737 MAX milestones?
The existing MAX family has public milestones, but they do not establish the successor’s appearance or timetable:

What would clarify the aircraft’s eventual appearance?
A public program announcement and design details from Boeing would be needed to move beyond the broad single-aisle description. The most informative milestones to watch are an official program launch, an aircraft name, a confirmed configuration and engine choice, and a published development or entry-into-service timeline. Until those details are announced, a precise visual description would go beyond what is established.
