British Airways describes World Traveller Plus (WTP) as its long-haul premium economy cabin. Its core benefits are a separate cabin with wider seats and more legroom, extra recline and lumbar support, seat power, a personal screen, an amenity kit, a quilt and cushion, priority boarding, a fuller meal service, and a larger baggage allowance than World Traveller. Several of these depend on the route, aircraft or fare, so the details below separate what BA promises from what you should confirm on your own booking.
What World Traveller Plus includes at a glance
The table below lists each benefit as British Airways presents it on its World Traveller Plus cabin and policy pages, as of 8 October 2026, along with the condition that applies to it.

Space and comfort: where WTP makes the biggest difference
For most travellers, the seat is the main reason to pay for WTP over World Traveller. BA’s own description of the cabin is direct: “The seats on our premium economy flights are wider, with greater recline, lumbar support, a head and foot rest, plus extra leg room to stretch out.” The cabin is also smaller and separate, so there are fewer rows and less foot traffic than in the main cabin. That matters most on overnight flights, where recline and lumbar support affect sleep more than the headline legroom figure.
BA does not publish a seat pitch for WTP in the sources reviewed, so the 45–48 cm seat width is the only hard seat measurement you can rely on from BA’s policy pages. Treat width and recline as the practical differences, and check the seat map for your specific aircraft if a particular row matters to you.

Food, drink and onboard service
The WTP service is the most noticeable difference during the flight itself. BA serves sparkling wine at the start of the journey, followed by a starter, main course and dessert, and drinks and snacks are delivered to your seat throughout the flight. Because menus change by route and season, the useful question is not which dishes you will get but whether your dietary needs can be met. BA asks passengers with dietary requirements to inform the airline before flying so a suitable meal can be prepared.
Entertainment and cabin extras
The personal screen, noise-cancelling headphones and on-demand entertainment are standard features of the cabin as BA describes it. Seat power is useful on long sectors, but the adapter caveat is practical: if your aircraft does not have an outlet compatible with your devices, you may need to bring your own adapter. Check your devices’ power requirements before you travel rather than relying on the cabin description alone.

Priority boarding and baggage
Priority boarding is part of the WTP package, which can help with overhead bin space on busy flights. The baggage allowance is the more valuable item for many travellers. You can bring a laptop or handbag and a cabin bag onboard, and BA says that on most routes you can check up to two bags. The phrase “on most routes” is important, because the allowance is not uniform across BA’s network. Confirm it on your booking rather than assuming it applies to a particular itinerary.
Lounge access and seat selection: what is not included
Lounge access is the benefit most often assumed, and the sources do not support it as an automatic part of a WTP ticket. BA promotes Lounge Pass as an optional service for entry to non-BA airport lounges, regardless of airline or cabin. That is a separate purchase. BA’s upgrade terms refer to lounge access under a different scenario, where an upgraded cabin applies to part of a journey, so do not confuse that with the standard WTP ticket.

Seat selection works the same way. Whether you pay for a seat depends on your fare and cabin, so check the booking before you assume a free choice. If you are a British Airways Club or oneworld status holder, the policy describes additional benefits that may apply. The optional doorstep baggage and check-in service AirPortr is also available for departures from Heathrow, Gatwick, Geneva, Zurich and Vienna, but it is an optional add-on and not part of the cabin fare.
The November 2026 aircraft upgrades
On 5 October 2026, BA announced improvements to World Traveller Plus on retrofitted Airbus A380 aircraft. The first retrofitted A380 is due to include larger entertainment screens, privacy wings, new bedding and pillows, and a reusable tote-style amenity kit with a moisturising balm and travel essentials. BA says the kit and bedding are planned for phased introduction across its long-haul aircraft throughout November.

This is a rollout plan, not a guarantee for every flight. If you are booking for November or later, check the aircraft type on your itinerary. Any flight you take before the rollout reaches your aircraft will have the current cabin and amenity kit described earlier in this article.
How to check the benefits on your own booking
- Confirm the cabin on your booking reads World Traveller Plus for every flight segment, including connections.
- Open BA’s baggage checker and enter your route and ticket details to confirm the checked-bag allowance.
- Check the seat-selection charge for your fare and cabin before you rely on choosing a seat in advance.
- If you need a lounge, decide whether the optional Lounge Pass is worth buying separately, rather than assuming it is included.
- Tell BA about any dietary requirement before departure so the meal can be arranged.
- Note the aircraft type. If your flight is in November 2026 or later, the retrofit items may or may not be on your aircraft, so confirm the cabin when you check in.
- If you carry devices that need power, check whether your aircraft has a compatible outlet or bring an adapter.
Is WTP worth paying for?
WTP’s value depends on which benefits you use. If you need a wider seat with more recline for a long overnight flight, and you regularly check bags, the cabin can justify the fare difference. If your priority is lounge access or a free seat choice, the included features do not cover those on their own, and you should price those separately. Comparing the total fare difference against the specific benefits you will use is the most reliable way to judge the upgrade.
