Aeroplan Elite Status combines airport priority, baggage and seat benefits, eUpgrade credits, and—in higher tiers—Star Alliance recognition and lounge access. The exact perk depends on your status level, fare, itinerary, operating airline, and availability. For status earned from 2026 activity, Air Canada uses Status Qualifying Credits (SQC); the thresholds below apply to 2027 status and later, not to 2026 status earned from 2025 activity.

What Aeroplan Elite Status includes

Air Canada lists five levels: 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K, and Super Elite. Each level adds or improves travel privileges, but status is not a guarantee of a particular seat, upgrade, bag allowance on every carrier, or lounge entry. Review the Air Canada benefits page for the conditions attached to your tier and itinerary.

Priority services and baggage

Priority check-in and boarding are among the core benefits, with eligibility affected by tier, airport, and operating airline. Priority baggage handling is a higher-tier perk. Checked-bag allowances also vary: Air Canada lists three complimentary checked bags for 75K and Super Elite members on eligible Air Canada flights. Do not assume that allowance applies to a partner-operated itinerary or every fare; check the carrier’s baggage rules for the specific booking.

Seat selection

Eligible members may receive complimentary standard or preferred seat selection, subject to tier and fare rules. For some eligible Economy Standard or Flex bookings, preferred seats may be available at check-in rather than earlier. If a future selection depended on an entitlement you later lose, the selection can be cancelled.

eUpgrades

Core eUpgrade credits let members request an upgrade to Business Class or Premium Economy on eligible Air Canada, Air Canada Express, and Air Canada Rouge flights. They are requests, not automatic upgrades: availability and fare rules matter. Economy Basic and Premium Economy Basic fares are excluded. Standard credits are valid for 12 months from when they are earned; members with an Aeroplan premium credit card may receive 24-month validity. The current core allotment is 5 credits at 25K, 10 at 35K, 15 at 50K, 20 at 75K, and 30 at Super Elite, according to Air Canada’s status information.

Lounges and Star Alliance recognition

Air Canada describes Maple Leaf Lounge and Air Canada Café access as status benefits, with tier, eligible travel, capacity, and other entry conditions applying. Members at 50K and above receive Star Alliance Gold recognition. Lounge access and guest privileges are not universal: check the rules for the lounge, airline, itinerary, and status tier before relying on entry.

Milestone rewards

Elite members can earn additional benefits as SQC accumulate: Air Canada lists milestones at each 10,000 SQC up to 200,000, then at each additional 20,000. Some milestone benefits are choices; others are issued automatically. These rewards are separate from the core benefits attached to a status tier.

2027-and-later qualification thresholds

For 2027 status and beyond, Air Canada describes SQC as the qualification measure. The thresholds below are based on calendar-year activity, starting with activity from January 1, 2026. Meeting a threshold unlocks that level’s Core Benefits for the rest of the qualification year and through the end of the following year.

Status level Annual threshold for 2027 status and beyond Core eUpgrade credits
25K 25,000 SQC 5
35K 35,000 SQC 10
50K 50,000 SQC 15
75K 75,000 SQC 20
Super Elite 125,000 SQC 30

Thresholds and core eUpgrade allotments are those published by Air Canada on its status page, accessed in 2026. Benefits and eligibility can change, so confirm current terms before making plans.

How SQC differ from Aeroplan points

Aeroplan points are redeemable for rewards; SQC measure qualification progress. SQC are not redeemable and cannot be exchanged for points. A points balance therefore does not tell you how close you are to Elite Status.

Ways to earn SQC under the 2026 framework

From January 1, 2026, qualifying activity can include eligible travel, Aeroplan credit card spending, and activity with program partners. The earning route and calculation depend on the product and its terms.

Eligible Air Canada flights

Air Canada’s announcement of the framework effective in 2026 says eligible flight points are based on spending on base fare and carrier surcharges, excluding applicable taxes, fees, and third-party charges. Members earn at least 1 Aeroplan point per eligible dollar, while Elite members receive a 2x-to-6x multiplier depending on status. These figures describe flight-point earning, not an interchangeable points-to-SQC conversion. Consult the Air Canada announcement and current fare-specific terms for the rules that apply to a ticket.

Credit card spending and partners

Eligible Aeroplan card spending and partner activity can contribute to SQC under the new framework, subject to each product’s terms. The Chase Air Canada card page accessed in 2026 states that U.S. cardholders can earn up to 25,000 annual SQC across Aeroplan credit cards, including the card’s stated bonus and spending thresholds. This is a U.S.-specific offer; its eligibility and terms should not be generalized to cards issued in other countries. See the Chase card page.

Air Canada Vacations packages

Air Canada Vacations says eligible Elite members earn SQC on the full package value per member, including taxes and fees. This package rule differs from the eligible-flight calculation above. Check the Air Canada Vacations terms to confirm package and member eligibility.

Keep the 2026 status transition straight

Air Canada’s status page separates 2026 status, which is based on 2025 activity under the prior rules, from the SQC thresholds for 2027 and later. The new SQC framework and spend-based flight-point earning apply to eligible travel on or after January 1, 2026, according to Air Canada’s August 6, 2025 announcement. Do not use the 25,000-to-125,000 SQC thresholds in the table to assess status earned from 2025 activity.

How to decide whether the perks matter to you

There is no universal cash value for Aeroplan Elite Status. The practical value depends on how often you fly eligible routes, which fares you buy, whether your operating carrier honors the benefit, and whether conditional perks such as upgrades or lounge entry are available when you travel. Compare your likely use of priority services, baggage, seats, eUpgrades, and milestone rewards against the effort or eligible spending required to earn SQC; do not treat a listed benefit as guaranteed on every trip.
