WeWork’s Kelly-Springfield coworking location at 1525 11th Ave. in Seattle’s Capitol Hill was scheduled to close at the end of February 2024. The company announced the decision in January, while it was restructuring under Chapter 11; it did not say that bankruptcy alone caused the closure. WeWork said affected members could relocate to other Seattle locations with the company’s support.
Which WeWork location closed, and when?
The closure involved WeWork’s space in the Kelly-Springfield building at 1525 11th Ave., near Capitol Hill’s Pike/Pine corridor. The location opened in January 2020. GeekWire reported in January 2024 that it was scheduled to close at the end of February that year. GeekWire’s January 2024 report covered the address, opening and scheduled closing date.
What did WeWork tell members?
A WeWork spokesperson told Capitol Hill Seattle Blog: “As part of WeWork’s strategic restructuring efforts, we have made the difficult decision to end our operations at Kelly-Springfield,” The January 18, 2024 report said the company offered affected members relocation, with support, to other WeWork locations in Seattle. The spokesperson also said Seattle remained a priority market and that WeWork would continue operating at other locations in the city.
How was the closure connected to WeWork’s bankruptcy?
WeWork and certain subsidiaries filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions on November 6, 2023, according to the company’s SEC filing. The Capitol Hill closure announcement followed in January 2024, during the company’s restructuring. WeWork attributed the decision to its “strategic restructuring efforts,” but the available reports do not establish that the bankruptcy filing itself was the specific cause of this site’s closure.

On June 11, 2024, WeWork announced that it had emerged from Chapter 11 and completed its global operational and financial restructuring. The announcement was filed with the SEC.
What happened to the former office floors?
In March 2024, Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reported that coworking operator CENTRL Office had a deal to take over the former WeWork floors. A later GeekWire report said CENTRL had taken over the former location: GeekWire’s report on the takeover. Those reports document the planned and subsequent handoff; they do not establish who occupies the space or whether it is available in 2026.

What Seattle footprint did WeWork report at the time?
GeekWire reported in January 2024 that WeWork operated seven other locations in the Seattle area. That was a contemporaneous count, not a current directory or a statement about the company’s footprint in 2026. The closure was a Capitol Hill location change, not an announcement that WeWork was leaving Seattle.
