The employees were in the bank’s wealth and investment management unit. The public account does not establish the exact method they allegedly used or where they were working when the activity occurred.
What happened at Wells Fargo?
Bloomberg reported on June 13, 2024, that Wells Fargo discharged more than a dozen employees the previous month. The employees worked in its wealth and investment management unit. Bloomberg attributed the description of the alleged conduct to disclosures filed with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA): employees were “discharged after review of allegations involving simulation of keyboard activity creating impression of active work.” Bloomberg’s June 13 report does not give a precise total or describe the findings in each individual case.
Wells Fargo’s spokesperson said: “Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards and does not tolerate unethical behavior.” That statement does not add details about the allegations or the employees’ specific conduct.
Does “faking being at their desk” mean they used a mouse jiggler?
Not on the evidence reported. A mouse jiggler or mouse mover is a device or software category that imitates mouse or keyboard activity, but Bloomberg did not identify a particular tool used by these employees. Its discussion of such gadgets is general context, not confirmation of the method in this case. Bloomberg’s account mentioned gadgets that were listed on Amazon for less than $20 at the time; that was a June 2024 observation, not a current price.

Were the employees working from home?
Their work location was not established in the public reporting. Bloomberg said it was unclear whether the alleged activity occurred while employees were working from home, and Axios likewise noted that the location was unspecified in its June 14, 2024 account. The phrase “faking being at their desk” is shorthand; it should not be read as proof that employees were remote or physically away from a desk.
What was Wells Fargo’s office policy at the time?
As historical context, Bloomberg reported that Wells Fargo began requiring office returns under a “hybrid flexible model” in early 2022. In June 2024, Bloomberg said most employees were expected in the office at least three days a week, management committee members four days, and many branch employees five days. Those figures describe reporting from 2024; they do not establish Wells Fargo’s policy in 2026.
