When did WeightWatchers workshops close in Australia and New Zealand?
PerthNow reported on October 7, 2024, that members had been notified by email on October 1 of the decision to end all in-person Workshop experiences in Australia and New Zealand. The email quoted in the report said the closure would take effect “on 2/11/2024”; in the report’s date format, that means November 2, 2024.
The report described members as blindsided and upset. Rhiannon McConnon, a member quoted by PerthNow, said workshops helped her maintain accountability and focus. She also said, “Weight management is more than just a numerical game. It is a psychological and emotional journey that is greatly influenced by social interaction and mutual support.” That is her account of the value she found in workshops, not a scientific finding about all members.
Can I still attend a WW workshop near me?
WW Australia’s current plans page describes coaching and workshops, including live in-person and virtual offerings. WW’s workshop locator also provides workshop-finder links for Australia and New Zealand. Neither page, by itself, verifies that a particular in-person session is operating near you or that local face-to-face workshops have resumed after the 2024 closure.

The same page says that, at six months, participants in a clinical trial of the WW program lost an average of 5 kg (5.4% of body weight). This is WeightWatchers’ presentation of a clinical-trial result; the page excerpt does not identify the study or its publication year. It should not be read as an independently established outcome for all members.
What happens to my WW membership if my workshop closed?
A workshop closure does not, on the available information, establish that every affected member received the same cancellation, refund, or replacement arrangement. Check your membership agreement and billing details, and ask WW how the 2024 closure affected your particular plan.
WW’s Australia and New Zealand cancellation and refund policy, last modified in December 2024, says some Workshop-member cases may qualify for special refund consideration, including a move more than 20 kilometres from a participating Workshop or a Workshop closure with no participating location within 10 kilometres. WW’s New Zealand company page says its operations, programs, app access, and coaching continued as usual at the time that page was published. It also discusses a planned menopause offering for international markets that offer workshops. That company-stated context does not establish a current Australia or New Zealand launch or confirm local in-person workshops.
