Run a household-specific basket comparison
- Choose the stores you can realistically use. Check both chains’ locators for nearby branches and note whether you would shop in-store, use pickup or order delivery.
- Make a repeat basket. List the same regularly purchased items, using the same sizes and brands where possible. Include prepared foods or specialty products only if they matter to your household.
- Compare ordinary in-store prices first. Record the prices for the same basket at nearby stores; keep any loyalty discounts separate so you can see the underlying price difference.
- Apply only realistic offers. Subtract a VIC offer only if you qualify and would buy that item anyway. Do not count a fuel benefit or membership perk at its advertised maximum if you are unlikely to use it.
- Add service costs separately. For the ordering method you would actually choose, check fees, minimums, available slots, substitutions and the checkout total. Terms and availability can vary by location and change over time.
How do rewards and memberships compare?
Harris Teeter’s VIC program includes eligible discounts, personalized offers and points that can be redeemed for fuel savings. HT Plus is a separate membership, not simply another name for VIC: its described benefits include delivery, streaming benefits and double fuel points on qualifying purchases, subject to restrictions and renewal terms. Before paying for a membership or counting a perk as savings, check the current terms, participating locations, qualifying purchases, renewal details and the benefits your household would actually use. Fuel points only have practical value if you use an eligible fuel center; delivery benefits matter only if your local store participates and the membership terms fit your ordering habits.

The company states that “100% of grocery pickup orders are shopped by Wegmans employees.” For delivery, Wegmans says delivery is free with a linked Instacart+ account; its offer page lists a $4.99 delivery fee otherwise through December 31, 2026. Which one is the better fit for your household?
- Lean toward Wegmans if a nearby store has the products and departments you want, its own-brand and local-supplier emphasis appeals to you, or you value its stated employee-shopped pickup process.
