Just before 3:00 p.m. CT, May crude oil was reported down 11¢ at $68.18 per barrel. June S&P 500 futures were down 20 points, June Dow futures down 124 points, and the June U.S. Dollar Index up 278 points.
How the morning quote differed from the close
The report’s 9:34 a.m. CT update said May corn was down ½¢ at $4.68½ per bushel. May soybeans were down 2¼¢ at $10.10¾ per bushel. These were morning prices, not closing prices. May corn later finished at $4.64¼, a lower price than in the morning snapshot.

In the morning update, Consus Ag Consulting partner Angie Setzer said old-crop corn and soybeans had found buying the previous day after news that port fees would not affect shipments until November if implemented. She also attributed lower wheat to traders unwinding earlier positions and to an increased potential for rain in some wheat-producing areas. Those were her assessments as reported at the time; the article did not separately document the port-fee timing or weather outlook.

Setzer also said uncertainty was limiting prices and suggested weaker equity markets could have prompted commodity selling to offset losses elsewhere. That is his interpretation of the session, not an independently established cause of corn’s decline.
