No. The available record describes a privacy complaint—not a $105 million fine. On 24 April 2025, digital-rights group NOYB said it filed a GDPR complaint against Ubisoft in Austria and suggested the regulator could impose a maximum fine of up to €92 million, approximately $105 million. NOYB’s case page listed the complaint as pending on 8 October 2026; the cited sources establish no final decision.
What prompted NOYB’s complaint?
In a complaint dated 24 April 2025, NOYB – European Center for Digital Rights named Ubisoft Entertainment SA as the respondent and addressed the filing to Austria’s data protection authority, the Datenschutzbehörde (DSB). The complaint concerns Article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and represents a redacted complainant. The English complaint sets out NOYB’s allegations; they have not been established as findings by a regulator or court in the cited record.
NOYB alleges that some PC players had to connect to the internet and log in to a Ubisoft account to launch certain single-player games, even when those games had no online features. It says Ubisoft collected play-activity information, including when a player started a game, how long they played and when they closed it. In its public announcement, NOYB also says the complainant asked why an internet connection was necessary, received no explanation and had an offline option available in the game. These details are NOYB’s account of the complainant’s experience, not independent findings.
What does the $105 million figure mean?
NOYB asked the DSB to find that Ubisoft breached GDPR Article 6(1) by processing personal data without a valid legal basis, order deletion of the complainant’s information processed without such a basis, and require the company to stop any further unlawful processing. NOYB also asked the authority to consider an administrative fine.

The amount—up to €92 million—was a possible maximum fine suggested by NOYB, which tied it to its statement that Ubisoft’s turnover exceeded €2 billion. It is not a penalty set by the authority or a finding about what Ubisoft owes. Cybernews described the figure as about $105 million, an approximate conversion of the euro amount.
What is the case’s status?
NOYB’s C098 case page showed the complaint as pending when checked on 8 October 2026. The page identifies Austria’s DSB as the filing authority and France’s data protection authority, the CNIL, as lead supervisory authority. This is NOYB’s status listing; it is not an independent confirmation from either authority. The cited record does not establish a final regulator decision.

Does Ubisoft’s privacy policy resolve the allegation?
No. Ubisoft’s privacy policy describes processing data associated with gameplay and social features, as well as purposes including player safety, security and service operation. That general description does not by itself answer whether the specific processing alleged by NOYB had a valid legal basis. Ubisoft’s January 2026 legal update describes changes to its Privacy Policy and Terms of Use but does not state an outcome in this complaint.
NOYB’s announcement quoted its data-protection lawyer Lisa Steinfeld calling Ubisoft’s actions “clearly unlawful.” That is an advocate’s legal opinion on behalf of the complainant organization, not a regulator’s or court’s conclusion.
