The post’s allegations about delivery priorities, driver assignments, fees and tips are not verified company practices.
What did the post claim?
The anonymous poster presented themselves as a backend engineer at a major food-delivery app and said its algorithms were “rigged against you.” The quoted line—and the claimed developer identity—came from the post, not a verified employee.
The post alleged that the app manipulated priority delivery, delayed standard orders, assigned drivers using a “Desperation Score,” diverted fees described as driver benefits, and linked drivers’ base pay to tips. These are claims made in the fabricated post; the report does not establish that a named delivery company used any of these practices.
What did reporting verify?
TechCrunch’s January 6, 2026 report found that the supposed whistleblower was fake and the Reddit post was AI-generated. The report therefore does not authenticate the poster’s identity or supporting material, nor does it substantiate the operational allegations. It also does not establish who created the post or why.

How widely did the post spread?
TechCrunch reported that the post received more than 87,000 Reddit upvotes. The publication also reported 208,000 likes and 36.8 million impressions for its spread on X. These are figures reported by TechCrunch, not independently verified platform analytics.
What should readers take from it?
The viral post is not evidence that a particular delivery app used the alleged scoring system, manipulated delivery priority, or redirected driver-benefit fees. Keep the distinction clear: the post made those allegations; the reporting established that the post was fabricated and AI-generated.
