He ended his 13-year Leicester career with 500 appearances and 200 goals for the club.
Was Vardy really paid £140,000 a week?
That figure is reported, not officially confirmed. FBref’s 2024–25 Leicester wage table, which attributes its data to Capology, lists Vardy at £140,000 per week. The table does not establish that his individual figure is an officially verified contract amount. A 2020 Leicester supporters’ forum post also gives the same weekly figure, but an older fan discussion cannot confirm the terms of his later contract extension.
Leicester’s and the Premier League’s announcements confirm his contract and performances, not his pay. It is therefore more accurate to describe £140,000 a week as a reported or estimated wage than as a disclosed contractual fact. The available sources do not establish bonuses, take-home pay, or the total cost of his contract.
What did Leicester get for that reported outlay?
A decisive season in the Championship
Leicester announced in June 2024 that Vardy had signed a one-year extension. He had scored 18 goals in the 2023–24 Championship campaign as Leicester won the title and returned to the Premier League. At the time, the Premier League noted that he was 37 and had scored 136 goals in the top flight.

Production in his final Premier League season
In 2024–25, Vardy scored nine Premier League goals in 35 appearances for Leicester. That is meaningful output in the club’s return to the top flight, though the figure alone does not establish how his contribution compared financially with other players or possible alternatives.
A landmark finish
Vardy’s final appearance, against Ipswich on 18 May 2025, was his 500th for Leicester. The goal he scored in that match was his 200th for the club, according to Leicester’s farewell report. Leicester confirmed that he left when his contract expired at the end of June 2025, after 13 years at the club.

How to judge the value-for-money claim
The case that Leicester cannot complain is persuasive as an opinion: Vardy helped deliver promotion, scored in the Premier League after the club returned, and finished with an exceptional record for Leicester. But a precise financial verdict cannot be calculated from the reported wage and these performance figures alone. The salary is not an official disclosure, and the available sources do not provide a salary-versus-output benchmark or comparable alternative contract.
So the sound conclusion is narrower than a claim that £140,000 a week was definitively paid or proved to be a bargain: if the estimate is broadly right, Leicester’s results and Vardy’s contribution make the outlay defensible. The exact wage and a definitive value-for-money calculation remain unestablished.
